Travelex sells $1/N356 to travellers

Travelex sells $1/N356 to travellers

Travelex, a global foreign exchange dealer, on Friday resumed sale of dollars directly to travellers at N356 to a dollar.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the firm’s office inside the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos terminal was besieged by hundreds of travellers.

Some Bureaux de change operators within the terminal were also selling from N470 to N472 to a dollar to travellers.

Travelex, which recently got the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to sell dollar, however, gave stringent conditions for the transaction.

The requirements include presentation of valid international passport, visa to destination, Biometric Verification Number, BVN, card, airline boarding pass and signed copy of transaction.

The firm also directed that cash would only be handed over to the traveller at the boarding gate after security and immigration checks.

According to the firm, these conditions are to ensure that dollar is sold to only genuine travellers, and discourage racketeering.

Consequently, some of the travellers were unable to buy dollars from Travelex because they could not produce their BVN cards.

One of them, Uche Ikediashi, told NAN that he was hearing about the card for the first time.

“Yesterday I bought dollars from a BDC at N470. Today I was told that Travelex is selling at N356; that is why I came here, but they said I needed to bring my BVN card and I don’t have it,” he said.

Another traveller, Samson Uduak, commended the CBN for the initiative which, he said, had created easy access to forex for travellers.

Tiger Woods Ends His 14 Months Break, Set to Return to Action Next Week

Tiger Woods ends his 14 months break, set to return to action next week

Tiger Woods will return to action for the first time since August 2015 by playing at the season-opening Safeway Open in California next week.

Fourteen-time major winner Woods, 40, has twice had back surgery since his last tournament appearance.

Last month, Woods, now ranked 767, had said he would play in the Safeway Open, from 13 to 16 October, "depending on his progress and recovery".

Woods was a vice-captain in USA's Ryder Cup winning side last week.

The American missed the whole of the 2015-16 season season through injury and was limited to just 11 starts in 2014-15.

Sweden's Jesper Parnevik, Open championship runner-up in 1994 and 1997, told Golf Digest he had been practising with Woods and the former world number one was "hitting it great" and "flushing everything".

Woods, whose last major triumph was at the 2008 US Open, had a back operation in March 2014, another in September 2015 and a follow-up procedure to relieve discomfort.

President Buhari Wise to End Saraki’s Criminal Trial - Atiku

President Buhari wise to end Saraki’s criminal trial - Atiku

Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president, says the federal government took a wise decision by withdrawing the criminal charges of forgery it filed against Senate President Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu, his deputy.

He commended the government, “particularly President Muhammadu Buhari for the withdrawal the criminal charges, thus paving the way for the resolution of the impasse between both arms of government”.

The former vice-president described it as “a wise and timely move”.

In a statement released by his media office in Abuja on Friday, Atiku said that the move by the federal government was an indication that it valued the much-needed cordial relationship between the executive and legislature and would take steps to ensure that it remained harmonious in the interest of the nation, and the advancement of our democracy.

The Turakin Adamawa said that it was only in the situation of harmonious, cordial and cooperative relationship between the three arms of government that real progress and development could take place in the polity.

“All hands needs to be mobilised to tackle the current economic difficulties in the country, and get the nation out of economic recession,” he said.

“Both the executive and legislature need to come together to find solutions to the current economic recession by eliminating all issues that promote strife and mistrust.

“Political crisis does little or no good in a democracy. All individuals and political forces in the country that still have issues should come together and resolve their differences for the good of the nation and the APC.”

Describing Buhari as a statesman and a man of peace, he said that the decision by the executive to end the disturbing allegations against the senate leadership opens a new page in the relationship between the executive and legislature, and was forthcoming because the president has never been comfortable with actions or issues that unnecessarily heats up the polity.

He urged the national assembly to reciprocate the spirit behind the resolution of the impasse by stepping up is collaborative efforts with the executive arm of government in the arduous task of fixing the nation’s broken economy and infrastructure.

Ize-Iyamu said this in Benin while addressing some protesters.

Mr Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the just concluded gubernatorial election in Edo, on Friday said God told him to recover his mandate.

He alleged that INEC robbed him and his party the PDP when it announced Mr Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the state governorship election.

He alleged that INEC robbed him and his party the PDP when it announced Mr Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the state governorship election.

He said that the alleged robbery of the Edo peoples mandate would not stand, adding that he had been seeking God’s intervention in the past few days.

Ize-Iyamu said his supporters had refused to be violent despite the alleged fake result announced by INEC.

He said that it was lamentable that those who were given the victory by INEC were ashamed of celebrating the victory.

The state PDP Chairman, Mr Dan Orbih, said the party was going to put everything in place to defend democracy. Orbih appealed to protesters to keep the peace while embarking on the street protests, adding that the will of the people must prevail.

Oyegun releases formal statement, says Tinubu's allegations are reckless

Oyegun releases formal statement, says Tinubu's allegations are reckless

The National Chairman of the All progressives Congress, APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, has formally replied a national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, who accused him of fraud and dictatorship in his handling of the party’s affairs.

Mr. Oyegun said Mr. Tinubu’s public letter contained “reckless falsehood.”
The national chairman issued a statement on Friday in which he attempted to respond to all the allegations raised by the former Lagos State governor.

Full statement below:

THE FACTS – 2016 ONDO STATE APC GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION PRIMARIES

The outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2016 Ondo State Governorship Primary Election has led to disagreements among some Party stakeholders in the state and at the national level. The ripples from the controversy over the election have unfortunately dragged our great party on to the front pages of newspapers for the wrong reasons.

Recently, the media office of Bola Tinubu falsely and recklessly accused me of corruption, rigging the outcome of the 2016 Ondo State APC governorship election primaries and overruling the Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) “vote” on the 2016 Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee Report.

In view of the misinformation and false reports that have been fed to the media and that have pervaded the public space, there is need to set the records straight. Below are factual responses to the salient points and allegations made by the media office of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in its statement.

ALLEGATION

The media office of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in its statement alleged that I overruled the NWC’s vote of “six against five” in favour of cancelling the primary election results and conducting another primary.
FACT

According to the minutes of the 18th emergency meeting of the APC NWC held from Monday 19th September 2016 to Thursday 22nd September, 2016 at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, there was absolutely no meeting which I chaired that voted in the manner alleged. Clearly, the report on which the media office of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu acted was a figment of someone’s wild imagination.

On Thursday 22nd September, 2016 being the final day for submission of candidate by Political Parties, the NWC discussed the possibility of voting having finished deliberation on the2016 Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee Report because members in support of cancelling the Primary results were still strident in their position.

A member of the NWC however drew the attention of the meeting to its previous decision in which the report of the Primary Election Committee was adopted while the Appeal Committee was set aside. The implication of this decision he reasoned was that a decision to submit the name of the winner of the primary election was already taken unless the NWC will now wish to reconsider its earlier decision.

I agreed with this and ruled that the previous decision of the NWC be upheld.

ALLEGATION

The media office of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in its statement also alleged that the names of “over 150 valid delegates were excised to make room for an equal number of impostors”.

FACT

The Ondo State approved delegates list was compiled in strict compliance with the Party’s constitution. Only qualified delegates were included in the list. Moreso, none of the aspirants or the Appeal Committee has submitted to NWC a list of delegates who were not qualified to be included in the delegates list but were listed as delegates or presumed qualified delegates who were not included in the delegates list used for the Primary.

ALLEGATION

The media office of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in its statement alleged that I used a “prayer interlude” which I initiated to “secretly excuse” myself from the NWC meeting to submit the name of Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the candidate of the Party.

FACT

The allegation is high fiction and an insult to the intelligence and sensibility of the respected NWC members present at the meeting. We do not and have never engaged in prayer interludes/sessions outside the usual opening and closing prayers. The prayer that is being referred to must be the closing prayer for the meeting.

ALLEGATION

The media office of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in its statement accused me of bribery and corruption over the outcome of the Ondo State APC governorship election primaries.“Oyegun has dealt a heavy blow to the very party he professes to lead. It is an awful parent who suffocates his own child for the sake of a few naira.” The statement issued by media office of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu read.

FACT

This reckless and baseless corruption allegation levelled against me is unfortunate and an insult to my person and my hard-earned reputation which I have strongly maintained. Nobody has the kind of money that can buy my conscience or make me do injury to an innocent man. In all the primaries conducted under my watch as National Chairman, I have strived to ensure a free, fair, transparent and credible process. The 2016 Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election was not an exception. There must be internal democracy in the Party and our constitution must be respected by all.

APPEAL COMMITTEE REPORT

The Party’s NWC decision to reject the 2016 Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee Report was taken on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in executive session after careful and exhaustive deliberations. The minutes and rejection were confirmed by the NWC on Thursday, September 22, 2016.

The NWC in its four-point resolution rejected the Appeal Committee’s recommendation on the grounds that the report was fundamentally and fatally flawed. The NWC observed that the Appeal Committee contradicted itself when it admitted in its report, “In making the above recommendations one is not unmindful of the fact that there may have been substantial compliance in the conduct of the exercise.” but still proceeded to recommend the nullification of the Primary election.

The NWC in its four-point resolution faulted the failure of the Appeal Committee to invite the National Secretariat as the custodian, to authenticate or otherwise the source of the disputed delegates list. Also, the Appeal Committee did not invite the Chairman or members of the Ondo State Governorship Primary Election Committee to clarify issues relating to the allegation of manipulation of the accreditation process. The Appeal Committee rather relied totally on unsubstantiated evidence(s) in the petitions it received to recommend the nullification of the Primary. This is against the principle of natural justice and fair hearing.

The NWC equally observed a serious contradiction in the Appeal Committee’s report in respect of the number of the accredited delegates. Whereas the Primary Election Committee’s report indicated that 2,774 delegates were accredited, the Appeal Committee’s report erroneously recorded it as those who voted in the election, thereby acting under the false impression that there was over voting in the exercise. The actual total number of votes cast was 2,754, as clearly recorded in the Primary Election Committee’s report.

The issue of fresh primaries did not arise as NWC had already rejected the Appeal Committee’s report in view of the stated flaws and upheld the election. In any case, any fresh primary was already time barred. By the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), all governorship primaries and issues related ended on September 19, 2016.

Also, voting on the issue became unnecessary and never took place in view of the NWC’s rejection of the Appeal Committee’s report.

The foregoing are facts backed by the minutes approved by all NWC members that attended the meetings held in respect of 2016 Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee Report.

It needs to be stated categorically that the NWC is confident that the Chairman of the Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Abubakar Badaru, Executive Governor of Jigawa State conducted a credible and exemplary exercise. We indeed commend the Governor and his team for their transparency and the free and fair manner the primaries was conducted.

Going forward, I appeal very passionately to leaders and members of the Party at all levels to explore internal dispute resolution mechanisms in addressing their perceived grievances instead of resorting to the media to vent their spleen.

There are enormous challenges in delivering on the Party’s 2015 election promises to Nigerians. On the immediate horizon is the task of winning the governorship election in Ondo state. We cannot afford to be distracted by the present contentions.

I wish to assure Party members that despite the media attention that has been generated by the disagreements in the aftermath of the 2016 Ondo State Governorship Primary Election, the Party is focused on the task ahead and we urge our Party leaders and teeming supporters to also remain calm.

The Party has already commenced wide consultations with stakeholders with a view to resolving the political differences that still exist. Hurling brickbats cannot help the cause of the party in any way.

The APC national leadership remains united and solidly committed to the task of winning the Ondo state governorship election to save the people of the state from the misrule of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Photo: EFCC arrest company MD over N4billion fraud

Chief. Patrick Sinanchi Nwokike

Following over a hundred petitions from across the country on the operations of an alleged Wonder bank and its nefarious activities, the EFCC on Thursday October 6, arrested the Managing Director of “Lets Partner With You Ltd”, Chief. Patrick Shanchi Nwokike at his residence in Enugu, Enugu state.

Petitions from a cross section of Nigerians and cutting across religious, gender, ethnic, economic and social class indicate that the company had over the past five years solicited and obtained deposits of more than N4,000,000,000 ( Four Billion Naira Only) from the general public with promise of mouth watering interest in return.

According to investigations conducted by the Commission, the company has no license to solicit and manage funds for the public nor was it registered with Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, or the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Company, NDIC.

Further investigations revealed that a 10% (Ten percent) interest was for some time paid on invested capital which for no justifiable reason, was suddenly stopped and all efforts by depositors to have at least the capital of their investments returned nor terminate their investments proved abortive.

Many of the complainants alleged that the operators of the scheme especially, Chief Nwokike not only live very flamboyant lifestyles but acquired several personal assets as well as using their deposits for philanthropic enterprise. The company was also found to have over six accounts in about four banks with the CEO of “Lets Partner With You Ltd” and his wife being the only signatories to the accounts.

In his statement, Nwokike who acknowledged that depositor’s funds with his company was about N4,000,000,000( Four Billion Naira Only) , denied operating both money lending and investment business as alleged by the petitioners.

He stated that his company is into partnership business which receives money from interested partners who desires interest from their money after it might have been infused into businesses especially that of small scale traders.

Nwokike argued that the present problem facing his company is as a result of the general economic downturn in the country; an argument punctured by his depositors who said his company started defaulting even before the present economic woes.

Investigation is still on-going to ascertain the extent of the company’s operations, its culpability, likely recovery of funds and possible prosecution.

Ondo Crisis: Akeredolu Progresses with Peace Process within the APC Circle (Photos)

Rotimi Akeredolu standing beside Isaac Kekemeke

All Progressives Congress gubernatorial candidate in Ondo, Rotimi Akeredolu has made peace with the State Party Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke who was alleged to have collaborated with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to impose a gubernatorial aspirant, Segun Abraham on the party towards the primary election.

Rotimi Akeredolu has been surreptititiously making reconciliatory progress with aggrieved party chieftains following the controversy of the All Progressives Congress primary election which he won with a slim victory of 34 votes.

He met with the Ondo State Chairman - Isaac Kekemeke of the All Progressives Congress and other local Government chairmen in the South-western state. The meeting at Kekemeke's house ended with the aggrieved groups reaching a consensus.

The details of the meeting are currently sketchy. Rumours also have it that the crack within the APC at the national level may soon become history as a reconciliatory committee has been stealthily innaugurated.

Akeredolu also known as Aketi shared his words on his Facebook page after the meeting:

"For me, the lives of the people of Ondo State must transcend above party issues. I met with the party Chairman today, D.I. Kekemeke , with the Local Government Chairmen present, at his home to resolve all lingering divisions. It was resolved by all that we must work together and move forward as a party.

"The chairman made it clear that he harbours no plans to leave the party as he has no other party to go to. Mr. Chairman assured us of his desire to do everything within his power to mend fences at the national level. Present at our meeting was Engr. Adetimehin, vice Chairman of the APC in Ondo and other supporters.

"I previously noted on here that primaries have a tendency to raise dust but once that is over, the dust must settle and everyone must close ranks. This is the beauty of democracy and we have espoused these principles. I appreciate the reception giving me by the party Chair and I look forward to bringing Ondo State to a new level of governance never seen before.

"It is time to think ANew and act ANew because changing the lives of our people is a goal worthy of our best efforts."

The massive hairball removed from a woman's stomach

A woman has been relieved after a giant hairball was removed from her stomach which has tormented her for years.

Doctors were left shocked after removing a giant hairball from a woman suffering from constipation and an enlarged abdomen.

The 38-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because she had lost more than a stone after having no appetite for the previous year, which doctors said left her looking tired with an unhealthy pale appearance.

According to Dailymail, her condition became deteriorated after tests came out inconclusive as doctors were forced to operate on her. They discovered a hairball lodged in her stomach, roughly the size of a melon, with a 'tail' going into the first part of her intestine.

It measured six by four inches with another, smaller, one in her large intestine.

She was diagnosed with Rapunzel syndrome, a rare condition in which a hairball (called a trichobezar) is found in the stomach, with its tail in the colon.

Named after the Grimms fairy tale character, is associated with trichotillomania, where sufferers have an irresistible urge to pull out one's hair, and trichophagia, the compulsive eating of hair.

After surgery she was discharged six days later and sent to see a psychiatrist and nutritionist.

Nigeria Hungry for Infrastructure, Not 'Iphones' - Finance Minister, Adeosun to World Bank

Nigeria Hungry for Infrastructure, Not 'Iphones' - Finance Minister, Adeosun to World Bank

Mrs. Kemi Adeosun

Kemi Adeosun has expressed Nigeria's strong desire for viable investments that could liberate the economy from its downturn and not ostentatious products circulated in the country.

The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has informed multilateral donor institutions and investors that Nigeria is hungry for infrastructure that can trigger growth, not iPhones and pricey suits that will drive consumption.

Nigerians in the face of recession have been patronizing iphone shops for whooping sums of money in the range of N500,000 and above amidst the economic squeeze.

Adeosun spoke Wednesday night at a session during the International Monetary Fund (IMF)/World Bank annual meetings in Washington D.C., saying investors must start to realise that western economies are matured and offer lower returns, while Africa with its infrastructure gap offers greater returns according to ThisDay Newspaper.

The minister made the remarks on the heels of the announcement by the IMF that it would offer zero interest rate on its concessional lending facility from 2016 to 2018 to Nigeria and other low-income economies that are in dire need of financial support to boost their economies and overcome challenges as a result of low commodity prices.

Adeosun said: “It seems very simple, in terms of what needs to be done. We are quite excited about negative interest rates. We like that you’re not earning any money.

“We are happy to take your money and give you very small positive interest rate. We think that the time has come, everyone is thinking out of the West, but there is nothing left in the West, everybody has to now come to Africa.

“But we don’t want investors to come to Africa to sell us iPhones and many expensive suits.

“We want to become productive, so we want this investment to come into infrastructure that will enable us to compete and really enable Africans to stay in Africa.”

She informed her audience that Nigeria has started a journey, which would take its economy from being dependent on oil as a primary commodity, to a more productive economy.

God Called Me to Be Governor of Cross River - Ayade

God called me to be governor of Cross River - Ayade

Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, on Friday said he got an instruction from God almighty to rule the state, with the aim of providing the dividends of democracy.

The governor said this at the Margaret Ekpo Airport in Calabar while addressing thousands of supporters who came to receive him on arrival from Abuja.

The governor had been away for over a month and during the period, the Supreme Court fixed December 9, 2016 for the ruling to determine his eligibility to continue to govern the state.

The matter at the Supreme Court was instituted by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Joe Agi, who contested the 2015 governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party with Ayade.

But addressing a crowd of over 10,000 supporters who waited for over three hours in the scorching sun, Ayade said power belongs to God, and that he had received divine call to govern the state.

Also at the event were the deputy governor, Prof. Ivara Esu; Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr. John Gaul-Lebo; Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Tina Agbor; state Chairman of PDP, Chief Edim Inok; and a member of House of Representatives, Mr. Lego Idagbo.

Ayade said, “I was preparing to run for the Senate when God called me and said I should be governor. I came into the office as governor under the inspiration of God. I am totally innocent. If I come before the court of man, I come with supplication for clemency from God,’’ he said.

Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Stephen Odey, said the people of the state would resist any attempt to remove Ayade, noting that the people of the state voted massively for him.

APC’s humiliation of Tinubu is dishonour to Yoruba race - Gov Fayose

APC’s humiliation of Tinubu is dishonour to Yoruba race - Gov Fayose

Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, has condemned “the continuous dishonourable treatment being meted out” to Bola Tinubu by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Despite saying he would “never” join APC, Fayose, a staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said “the humiliation of Tinubu is as good as humiliation of the Yoruba race”.

Fayose was specifically referring to the content of the book, ‘Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria”, written by John Paden, a part of which suggested that Tinubu did not favour the emergence of Yemi Osinbajo as Buhari’s running mate ahead of the 2015 presidential election.

“Even though I am not a member of APC and I will never be, I have been elected to stand in defence of the Yoruba nation once again by saying no to the continuous dishonourable treatment being meted on Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, having paid his dues,” Fayose said in a statement issued by Lere Olayinka, his special assistant on public communications and new media.

“If Tinubu is allowed to be embarrassed and disgraced just the way our past leaders were humiliated by these same elements, the Yoruba nation would have been made to suffer for uprightness.”

Condemning Tuesday’s “sponsored protest against the APC leader at the party’s national secretariat”, Fayose said: “It is unfortunate that Tinubu is now being vilified in a party he invested heavily in and his fellow kinsmen that he brought up politically are part of this conspiracy.

“In their desperation, they have even tried to set him against the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, by insinuating that tried to prevent his (Osinbajo) emergence as President Mohammadu Buhari’s running mate, this is sad!

“When other tribes protect own, it is becoming historically common among the Yoruba to allow themselves to be used against their leaders just for momentary political gains at the expense of the collective interests of the Yoruba nation.

“It should be noted that late Chief Obafemi Awolowo was sent to jail by the conspiracy and collaboration of some Yoruba with the external aggressors.

“Tinubu is a prominent stakeholder, we should not sit back and watch while those he used his own sweat to make conspired with others to humiliate him.

“Most importantly, it is my position that irrespective of political affiliation, no leader of the Yoruba nation must be vilified unduly, especially by the same people who humiliated our past leaders like Obafemi Awolowo, Adekunle Ajasin, Bola Ige, Bisi Onabanjo, Lateef Jakande and others.

“To me, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu should not be seen just as an APC leader but acknowledged as a major stakeholder in the Yoruba nation that we must all protect beyond politics.

“It should be recalled that these were among the issues that I raised when I visited Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state few months ago on the need to work together beyond party affiliations.

“Here in Yorubaland, it is said that if a household is at peace, it is because the bastard child of the family is yet to attain the age of maturity and those people that Asiwaju Tinubu made but are now being used against him should watch it.

“I therefore condemn this conspiracy against Asiwaju Tinubu and I admonish those that are hoping to make political benefits from it to have a rethink.”

Fayose called for greater unity among the Yoruba, saying: “We are first Yoruba before becoming members of political parties; it is my opinion that our leaders must be defended and protected, not minding the personal gains of today.”

I Was Not Suspended - APGA Chairman Claims

I was not suspended - APGA Chairman claims

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr Victor Oye, has said that he is still in charge contrary to speculations in some quarters.

Oye newsmen in Awka on Friday that there was no substance in the speculations, adding that APGA was growing more formidable under his leadership. Reacting to the speculations, the party chieftain described its authors as saboteurs and dissidents who were working with those against the progress of APGA to destroy it.

Oye said the party just concluded its monthly working committee meeting with all 29 members in attendance and wondered why just four members could generate such report even when they attended the meeting.

“The report about my suspension or sack is rubbish; it holds no substance whatsoever. I am talking to you from my office where we just had our NWC meeting attended by all members.

“I am surprised that just four people could go and generate such malicious story from nowhere. These people were also in our meeting. I tell you they are enemies of APGA. They are saboteurs and best described as dissidents; there is no crisis in APGA.

“It is unfortunate that some media organisations have used that story without confirmation; it is unethical not to balance a story, especially when it is not true,” Oye said. The chairman lauded the supporters of APGA in the recent Edo gubernatorial election but described the exercise as ‘not a true reflection of the minds of the people’ .

Oye said it was ridiculous that a party which was the third largest in the country could not garner up to 1,000 votes according to the result released by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“APGA joins other political parties to condemn and reject the published results of Edo governorship election. It was not a true reflection of the minds of the people of Edo,” he said.

Some members of the party on Oct. 6 said that Oye and other national officers had been suspended for alleged gross misconduct.

A report credited to the Deputy National Secretary of the party, Chief Jerry Obasi, had named the other suspended members as the Deputy National Chairman (North), Alhaji Abubakar Adamu and the Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Uchenna Okogbuo.

Kidnappers gang that abducted Lagos teachers, pupils led by a woman – Eyewitness

Kidnappers gang that abducted Lagos teachers, pupils led by a woman – Eyewitness

A woman led the kidnappers that abducted six persons from the Lagos Junior Model College, Igbonla, Epe on Thursday, an eyewitness said.

The school’s Vice-Principal, Mr. A.O. Oyesola; the English Language/Civil Education teacher, Mr. Lukman Oyerinde; and four Junior Secondary School 1 pupils were abducted.

It was learnt that the kidnappers, who invaded the school as pupils were rounding off their assembly, were six in number.

Five of the abductors, including the woman, had guns, while the last gang member held a cutlass.

A JSS 1 pupil, who identified himself only as Saheed, said the abductors came through the waterways and entered the school through a gate behind the boys’ hostel, close to the assembly hall.

He said, “We usually do our assembly in a hall. The senior school in the second hall had already dispersed. We were saying the closing prayer when we saw the gunmen. They wore red and blue vests. They shot into the air. Some of us ran inside the bush.

“The abductors were six persons. They began to shout ‘move, move, move’ as they led our vice-principal, teacher and the four pupils away.”

Our correspondent gathered that the school was thrown into confusion when parents stormed the premises to take their children away.

They were, however, prevented from doing so by security operatives.

When PUNCH Metro got to the school at about 3pm on Thursday, policemen from the Rapid Response Squad, OP MESA soldiers, Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, State Special Anti-Robbery Squad and the local vigilance group were on the premises.

The father of Isaac Adebisi, one of the abducted pupils, Mr. Oluwafemi Adebisi, said he was hopeful that his son would return home safely.

He said, “Tuesday was my first day in the school. I brought my son on that day when they resumed from the public holiday. The abductors came and disrupted the assembly.

“Their teachers called the attendance list after the abductors left and he was nowhere to be found. None of the pupils clearly saw him leaving with them because of the tension. The school authorities have met us and assured that they would find the children.

“I believe God that my son will be found because he is a promised child.”

Budget Padding: Jibrin Forwards Names of First 50 Reps to EFCC Over Fraud (See List)

Budget Padding: Jibrin Forwards Names of First 50 Reps to EFCC Over Fraud (See List)

Abdulmumin Jibrin

Some members of the House of Representatives must be sweating hot now as embattled House of Reps member Abdulmumin Jibrin has submitted some names to the EFCC over fraud.

Suspended member of the House of Representative, Abdulmumin Jibrin has accused his colleagues of orchestrating monumental corruption and fruad in the House. He also accused members of raking in millions in illegal allowances.

He has therefore urged them to stop milking Nigerians dry and has forwarded about 50 Members of the House involved in running cost allowances fraud to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

He wrote: "After about 10 weeks since I commenced exposing corruption in the House of Representatives, Speaker Dogara and other accused persons are yet to respond to dozens of allegations bordering on budget fraud, abuse of office and public trust and corruption.

This is in addition to my revelation that there exist chronic, deep-rooted, monumental and systemic corruption in the House.
"In the light of the foregoing, I wish to make the following statements and demands:

1. I am also demanding the Minister of Finance, Accountant General of the Federation, Attorney General of the Federation and Clerk of National Assembly in exercising my right as a citizen of Nigeria to stop with immediate effect further payments of running cost allowances to Members of the House of Representatives because as an insider, I know that most of such money have been and are diverted into private pockets.

There is no law in our country that is intended to protect corruption. So the continuous payment of such money negates the spirit and genuine intention of establishing such laws in the first place.

2. I am also calling on Nigerians, companies, ministries, departments and agencies to shun invitations from the House of Representatives until the House allows for a transparent investigation of individual and systemic corruption allegations in collaboration with ongoing external investigations by the police and anti-graft agencies and commence a wide ranging reforms to restore the battered image of the House and strengthen it to effectively discharge its constitutional mandate. As a Nigerian, you have enough reason to shun them. I assure you that they can do nothing.

Why did you think the House could not do anything to the former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Allison-Madueke towards the end of the 7th Assembly when she shunned and dared the House? Think? I will come to that latter and narrate to you the story of how she met a senior member of the body of Principal Officers of the 7th Assembly in the Aso drive residence of a Lebanese business man, the deal that was struck and what followed after in devastating consequences to the House and its image. A complete shame!

3. As I promised and gave a 72-hours ultimatum to the Principal Officers and one week to other members, I have forwarded to the Anti-graft agencies the first batch of names of 50 members of the House that are involved in running cost allowances fraud in their entire stay in the House. I have broken the list into batches to make the work easier for the anti-graft agencies.

I will be sending the names in batches of 50 until the list is exhausted. The first batch include Speaker Yakubu Dogara, Deputy Speaker Yusuf Lasun, Whip Alhassan Doguwa, Minority Leader Leo Ogor, Hon Herma Hembe, Hon Jagaba Adams, Hon Timothy Golu, Hon Yunusa Ahmad Abubakar, Hon Mukaila Olayiwola Kazzim, Hon Lynda Chuba Ikpeazu, Hon Abdulrazak Namdas, Hon Osai Nicolas Osai, among others.

I deliberately included the name of Hon Osai Chairman Ethics Commiittee who wrote the report that suspended me from the House on the grounds that I lied over my allegations that there exists monumental systemic corruption in the House. After the anti graft agencies investigate his running cost, the world will know whether I lied or told the truth.

4. Nigerians must be very vigilant because as an insider, I know how the House usually responds during period like this. As you have started noticing, many investigative hearings and ad hoc committees are springing up like mushrooms. The investigative hearings are intended to blackmail the executive arm and coax them not to act on the allegations and the ad hoc committees are used to settle aggrieved members as it provides avenues to collect bribes.

You will also notice irrational grandstanding over approval of MTEF/FSP and the budget or correspondence from the President. All these are legislative antics employed by the House to use the institution of the House to shield corrupt members. This is exactly what Speaker Yakubu Dogara and his corrupt cabal are executing presently in the House. The EFCC and the Police has severally been victims of this kind of evil tactics by the House in the past.

I am therefore urging Nigerians and the Executive Arm of government to stand up against any blackmail from the Speaker Yakubu Dogara-led House of Representatives as they are all antics to evade investigation and prosecution.

I have said repeatedly that the Senate and executive arm of government can rely on doctrine of necessity to bypass the House in the face of such allegations of monumental corruption, which has been described as the biggest corruption scandal in the history of the parliaments around the world.

Finally, i wish to call on the Federal Government to make me face the harshest punishment prescribed by our laws if my allegations are found to be false."

Stop payment of running costs to Reps, money diverted into ‘private pockets’ – Jibrin tells Minister of Finance, Adeosun

Stop payment of running costs to Reps, money diverted into ‘private pockets’ – Jibrin tells Minister of Finance, Adeosun

A former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has called on the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, to stop further payment of running costs to members of the Lower Legislative Chamber.

Jibrin, who was last week suspended  from the House, alleged that rather than use the money for its original purpose, lawmakers divert the funds into “private pockets”.

He also advised Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government to shun invitations to appear before the House.

The Kano lawmaker, who took to his twitter handle @AbdulAbmJ, wrote: “I am also demanding that the Minister of Finance, the Accountant General of the Federation, the Attorney General of the Federation and the Clerk to the National Assembly, in exercising my right as a citizen of Nigeria, should stop with immediate effect, further payments of running cost allowances to members of the House of Representatives.

“As an insider, I know that most of such monies have been and are diverted into private pockets.

“There is no law in our country that is intended to protect corruption. So, the continuous payment of such money negates the spirit and genuine intention of establishing such laws in the first place.

“I am also calling on Nigerians, companies, ministries, departments and agencies to shun invitations from the House of Representatives until the House allows for a transparent investigation of individual and systemic corruption allegations in collaboration with ongoing external investigations by the police and anti-graft agencies.”

The lawmaker also disclosed that he has started forwarding the names of members in batches to anti-graft agencies on how they allegedly misused the running costs.

Jibrin stated that he was prepared to serve the “harshest punishment” if his allegations were proven to be wrong.

I don’t belong to any political party – Obasanjo

I don’t belong to any political party – Obasanjo

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has declared that he is no longer a member of any political party in the country.

The former president made the declaration when he played host to members of the National Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association, NACTOMORAS, in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

Stressing that ‘Okada’ and ‘Keke’ has come to stay in Nigeria, he described their existence in the country’s transportation system as an economic necessity, which has come to stay.

According to Obasanjo,“As for me now, I don’t belong to any political party and I will not belong to any political party. The only thing that is of concern to me is the greatness of Nigeria. But let me tell you that I am always available to you for pieces of advice just as I promise to talk to you the way I would talk to my own children.

“You should be rest assured that I will advise you honestly and sincerely. You know that I am not usually afraid to tell anyone off, you know I am not afraid to do so. Let me also advise you against drunkenness and drug. Don’t get involved in them, because most of the accidents on our roads have been traced to abuse of drug and drunkenness among drivers.

“Before the existence of your organisation, what we knew in Nigeria were taxi drivers. But because of hard economic situation in the military government days, Keke NAPEP came in. I even mandated and made provision for Keke NAPEP all over the country, because where ever we may be, we need a means of transportation.

“As our population increases, so much more efforts will be needed to move people from one place to the other as our urban areas multiply so much that we need to move people from urban and sub-urban areas.

“Let me tell you that the two and the three wheelers means of transportation will continue to be relevant in the country because of the situation we find ourselves.”

Advising the transporters not to allow politicians use them to achieve their aims, Obasanjo said, “If you want me to always be proud of you as members, you must always be organized, decent and disciplined among other members of the society as well as be law abiding.

“Don’t let anyone misuse you as an organisation as a stepping stone to become candidate of this party and the other. I am not saying you can’t join any political party of your choice as an individual, but not as a group.”

Obasanjo had in February 2015 dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after he publicly tore his membership card.
