AMCON takes over Airijet Airlines over N10b debt

Justice Chuka Austine Obiozor of a Federal High Court, Lagos Division has ordered the Assets Management Company of Nigeria, AMCON, to take over Afrijet Airlines Limited.
The company is allegedly owing AMCON nearly N10 billion.

The order also affects Ibe’s Continental Aviation Services Limited. AMCON has since appointed Prof. Gbolahan Elias, SAN, as Receiver/Manager.

At about 11:00am Friday, the Receiver/Manager took possession of the assets of Chief Ibe, including Afrijet Plaza, the corporate head office of the airlines located on Sheraton-Opebi Link Road Ikeja, Opebi, Lagos; his asset at Plot 22, Jimoh Odutola Street, off Eric Moore Road, Surulere, Lagos as well as his office at the Airport.

The Court order mandated the Receiver/Manager to also take over on behalf of AMCON any other offices, branches, stores, warehouses, factories of Chief Ibe and his companies located and/or traced for the purpose of satisfying the indebtedness.

Justice Obiozor, who gave verdict on the application of Prof. Gbolahan Elias, SAN counsel to AMCON, restrained Ibe and his companies, directors, agents, servants and/or privies from operating, withdrawing from or otherwise tampering with the funds belonging to and/or deposited in any of his bank accounts under whatever name or guise in any bank or financial institution in Nigeria.

Chief Ibe has been in protracted negotiations with AMCON.

The Court, therefore, ordered the Inspector General of Police, Assistant Inspectors General of Police, and the Commissioner of Police in charge of Lagos State, its Deputy and all other Police Officers under them to assist Prof. Gbolahan Elias, SAN, the Receiver/Manager and the Bailiffs of the Federal High Court in the enforcement of the orders of the Court.

No incident was recorded during the enforcement exercise.

Wenger rules out coaching France national team..The time is gone

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has admitted that it is too late for him to move into international management, ruling out the possibility of coaching France one day.

The 66-year-old will mark his 20th year in charge of Arsenal in October and has just one year left on his current deal.

Although his future is far from certain, Wenger has told beIN Sports, in quotes reported by the Daily Mirror, that he does not se it happening.


“I think this time has gone now.
“I have been asked a few times to do it. I was always busy somewhere else”, Wenger sai‎d.

Sheriff accuses Obi, Makrafi of working for APC

The embattled factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff, Friday, accused the Chairman of the PDP caretaker committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi and Secretary of the committee, Senator Ben Obi of working for a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, Sheriff said the unnamed APC chieftain had been sponsoring Makarfi and Obi, adding that the duo had been paying secret visits to the said APC chieftain.

The factional chairman insisted that he remained the authentic leader of the opposition party.

He said, “If there are people in the PDP working for the APC, it’s Makarfi and Obi. Makarfi should not force me to reveal details that I should not reveal under normal circumstances.

“Makarfi and Obi have gone to visit this APC chieftain in his house twice and this particular individual is still in the APC. It would have been better if the man had left the APC to join the PDP.

“They are reserving the 2019 presidential ticket of the PDP for this individual who has been funding their activities. If Makarfi continues to attack my person, I will be forced to reveal further details of their alliance.

“Everybody in Nigeria knows this particular APC chieftain who wants to contest for president in 2019 on the platform of the PDP. So, Makarfi should just shut up”.

Sheriff had earlier in the day, received a delegation of PDP chieftains from Plateau State who came to declare support for his leadership.

The leader of the delegation, Dr. Haruna Dabin said the delegation decided to support Sheriff because he was the only one that can stop the culture of impunity in the PDP.

Dabin said, “We have decided to stand with Sheriff on the path of truth and the rule of law. We are confident in his ability to heal the wounds in our party”.

Police corporal Christian Oboko, a resident Pastor of Battle Axe Assembly Church located in Chuba Allo area of Port Harcourt has been arrested for armed robbery.

The 35-year-old suspect started his armed robbery career using two pistols his police team recovered from suspected robbers. He was known for always mounting the pulpit to preach about salvation and hell fire. He was also known for preaching to his colleagues at the slightest opportunity. Indeed, Oboko was trusted and respected among his peers.

But his sins appear to have finally found him out. Perhaps the most shocking of all is the fact that Oboko, who is a pastor and a corporal, is actually the leader of the robbery gang. He said: “I don’t know what came over me. I’m the resident Pastor of Battle Axe Assembly Church, located at the Chuba Allo area of Port Harcourt.

I have the calling from God to be a pastor. I don’t know what made me join this evil business of robbery.”

Oboko’s double life was blown open after one of his gang members, John Paul Amandi, 27, was arrested by the former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase’s Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT), deployed to Rivers State to investigate activities of car snatchers.

Immediately Amandi was arrested, he knew his days of terror had ended. With a resigned look on his face, he started singing like a bird. While spilling the beans, he mentioned his leader, Oboko. Oboko was arrested, tried and dismissed from the force.

POLL: Should a referendum be held on Biafra?

The world woke up on Friday to receive the news that the United Kingdom had voted to pull out of European Union (EU).

Apart from Greenland, one of Denmark’s overseas territories, which gained a greater degree of self-government after a referendum in 1982, no nation state has ever left the EU.

But a total of 33.6 million people across 41,000 polling stations participated in a referendum with results – 51.9 for BREXIT and 48.1 against it – sending waves of shock across the world.

In Nigeria, the agitation for the sovereignty of Biafra regained momentum, particularly on social media, after the UK voters made the historic decision.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) are the groups in the frontline of the campaign for a separate state, and the appeal of the federal government has not made them shift ground.

The violence recorded during protests organised by these groups has been a source of concern. The effect of the recent one which occurred less than a month ago is still being felt.

While commemorating the 50th anniversary of the declaration of Biafra, campaigners clashed with security agents in different parts of the south-east. Both sides have continued to trade blame for the incidents, which left tales of woe.

Many were killed, some hospitalised, property destroyed, and some are still in detention. What is the solution to this problem? Should Nigeria hold a referendum to put the agitation to the test? We would like to hear from you‎.

US, Spain deport 52 Nigerians within 48 hours

The Spanish government on Friday deported 11 Nigerians alleged to have committed various offences in the country.

Their deportation is coming less than 48 hours after 41 Nigerians were deported from the US for similar reasons.

The deportees, comprising of 10 males and one female, arrived at the Hajj Camp area of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at 7:10 pm.

They were received by officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Nigeria police force.

Joseph Alabi, airport police spokesman, confirmed the deportation to NAN, saying they were alleged to have committed immigration-related offences.

In May, the United Kingdom and Australia jointly deported 40 Nigerians alleged to have been involved in various offences in their host countries.

Hollywood actor, Ben Affleck, has revealed that his career suffered a decline, following his split from singer and actress, Jennifer Lopez.

He said, "If you went by what people said … I wasn't cool and I wasn't talented, and I was, like, the lowest rung of cool and talented that you could possibly be in the public consciousness at that time,"

"I had broken up with Jennifer Lopez and I had, like, three or four movies in a row that had bombed."

The actor also added that he became a comic muse for comedian, Robert Wuhl, who made him the subject of a United Airline clip.


This prompted him to consider a new path in movie directing, as such personalities are taken more seriously.

Affleck went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture for his work in “Argo”, a 2012 movie.
