I Only Dated Men Who Lived Outside Nigeria Before I Got Married- Uche Jombo

Uche Jombo

Nollywood actress and producer, Uche Jombo, in this interview with Sunday Scoop was asked how  it feels being married to a man who lives in America. The super actress then said the feeling was not strange as she never dated any man who lived in Nigeria. Her words:

I Only Dated Men Who Lived Outside Nigeria Before I Got Married- Uche Jombo

“Before I got married, I had always dated people who lived outside Nigeria. As a result, being married to someone who lives abroad does not seem bizarre. I didn’t plan to marry someone who lives abroad. Rather, it just happened.”

She advised ladies not to be allowed to be pressured into marriage. She said; “Marry because you know this is what you want to do once in your lifetime.

You have to be married to someone you can do everything with. Don’t marry because people say it is time to get someone. Get married for yourself. The pressure today will not be worth the ache tomorrow.”

River Niger Will Soon Overflow, So Leave Immediately - NEMA Urgently Warns Nearby Communities

River Niger Will Soon Overflow, So Leave Immediately - NEMA Urgently Warns Nearby Communities

River Niger bridge

Residents who live near the River Niger may be in for a difficult time as NEMA issues a new warning to evacuate.

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has advised communities along the river Niger to evacuate immediately to safer ground.

The warning came following intense rainfall and rise in water level. There is the likelihood of floods occuring there any moment from now.

Daily Post reports that the Director General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani Sidi who gave the advice on Saturday said the agency has received alerts of the flood from information given by the authorities in the Republic of Niger that the present water level in the river had reached a point that may result in the flood that could be compared with the unfortunate experience of 2012.

He said “Niger Basin Authority (NBA) notified Nigeria that rainy season, which started in the Middle Niger (Burkina Faso and Niger Republic) in June, 2016, has led to a gradual rise of the level of River Niger in Niamey, Niger Republic. This high level of water in Niger Republic is already spreading to Benin Republic, and invariably, to Nigeria”.

He disclosed that the level of water in all the hydrological monitoring stations across the country, as at Friday August, 2016, had already exceeded the corresponding values at that time, which was an alarming situation that required the prompt and coordinated action of all governments and stakeholders.

“If the heavy rainfall continues in intensity and duration within these regions of the River Niger, it is imminent that flood situation similar to that of the year 2012 may occur”, he added.
The NEMA DG then called on all stakeholders to take necessary actions in line with their various mandates.

He added that, “The states and local government are to ensure observance with the threat in order to avert imminent loss of lives and properties that might certainly arise in the event of flood.”

Sidi identified the states along the river Niger belts as being the most vulnerable as well as those along its major tributaries that includes Benue river belts, the confluence states and downstream to the Atlantic Coast.

NEMA Zonal and Operation offices, he noted, have been instructed to continue with advocacy visit to the state governments and also urged the state to utilize the flood vulnerability maps given to them earlier by NEMA to identify safer ground for temporary shelters in time of evacuation as well as reviewing all their contingency plans.

Ogun directs Julius Berger to work on Lagos-Ibadan expressway at night

Ogun directs Julius Berger to work on Lagos-Ibadan expressway at night

The Ogun State government has expressed deep concern about the hardship being faced by Nigerians who regularly commute on the ever-busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway on account of the ongoing reconstruction work being undertaken by Julius Berger Plc.

It has accordingly directed that with effect from Monday, August 8, 2016, the contractor shall not work on the Lagos Ibadan expressway during the peak traffic hours, namely from 6am to 10am and between 4pm and 10pm. We encourage the contractor to work full blast between 10am and 4pm and also during the night after 10pm.

This measure has become necessary because we observed that the already bad traffic situation on the expressway has been further compounded by the increasing spate of armed robberies reported along the road.

The Ogun State government welcomes the ongoing reconstruction works in the full realization of the fact that this will ultimately bring greater relief to our people. We however note that the effort has come with temporary pain, in the nature of perennial traffic congestion and security challenges.

In the past few weeks, we took two steps. We increased police and security patrols on that axis and opened up discussions with the Federal Controller of Works, Ogun State and the contractor. We suggested that they should consider working late evenings and overnight in order to ameliorate the disruption to the lives of commuters on the ever-busy expressway and Ogun residents.

It is a thing of regret that our suggestion was spurned.

The state government made this request based on experience. We recall that before the advent of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun administration, armed robberies occasioned by bad portions of the road; traffic congestion caused by unruly drivers driving against the flow of traffic and tanker drivers parking indiscriminately on the median, were the order of the day.

So Sad! Bandits Kill 11 Soldiers in Gun Shoot-out in Niger State

So Sad! Bandits Kill 11 Soldiers in Gun Shoot-out in Niger State

Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman

In a fierce shoot-out between the Army and armed bandits, 19 people have lost their lives on both sides, with about 57 arrested.

The Nigerian Army has said that 11 military personnel including an officer and eight bandits died in a gun battle at Kopa, Dagma and Gagaw villages of Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in a statement on Saturday that the dead military personnel comprised nine soldiers and two Airmen.

He said the soldiers were from 31 Artillery Brigade, Division and the Nigerian Air Force detachment on International Security Operation MESA. Usman added that two other soldiers sustained serious injuries while one was missing.

According to Usman, the troops were on a cordon and search operation to recover suspected cache of weapons and arrest armed bandits when they came under attack from the hoodlums.

Usman added that the bandits also burnt down four operational vehicles, vandalised two others and went away with four AK-47 rifles, and a Fabrique Nationale rifle belonging to the deceased soldiers.

He explained that the troops killed eight of the attackers, arrested 57 and recovered large quantity of arms and ammunition from them.

The Acting Army Spokesman disclosed that the recovered items included three AK-47 rifles,10 Local AK-47 rifles, nine locally-made pistols, six revolver guns, which fires 7.62mm (special ammunition), 45 loaded dane guns, 10 clubs and cudgels, 41 arrows, 18 bow cases, 122 cutlasses and machetes as well as 20 daggers.

Usman said, ‘‘The troops also recovered 31 axes, 63 rounds of 7.62 (special) ammunition, 10 Bajaj motorcycles, assorted charms and amulets, two vehicles, 38 mobile telephone handsets, a wristwatch, five identity cards, passport photographs, sum of N23,870. 00k, five Japanese Yen and 35 different denominations of old Nigerian currency, 15 catapults, eight torch lights, two gun powder bottles, four empty cases of ammunition and 41 cartridges.”

Usman further listed the recovered items to include a military waist belt and a pair of military combat boots.

He explained that the military undertook the operation in response to covert surveillance and intelligence report on the activities of the gun-runners in the area.

He said the military would ensure that those behind the dastardly act were apprehended and brought to justice.

“It is important to stress that the nefarious activities of the gun-runners and the armed bandits has direct bearing with the influx of weapons and general insecurity in some parts of the Federal Capital Territory and the North-West geo-political zone of the country.

“The same gun-runners have been confirmed to be the suppliers of arms to armed robbery gangs that were involved in series of armed robbery attacks along Minna-Bida Road and the general environment.

“Although the situation is under control, the military will not rest on its oars until all those involved are arrested and brought to justice. The military will continue to deal with any violent threat to our national security,” Usman stated.

EFCC to Seize Ex-Governor Akpabio's Properties Over N108bn Fraud

EFCC to Seize Ex-Governor Akpabio's Properties Over N108bn Fraud

Sen. Godswill Akpabio

Following in series of petitions written against him, the EFCC has moved in on a former governor over embezzling of public funds during his tenure in Akwa Ibom State.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is intensifying investigation on ex-Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, SUNDAY PUNCH has learnt.

The EFCC is investigating allegations that the former governor embezzled N108bn during his tenure between 2007 and 2015.

Already, the anti-graft agency had written to five banks demanding information on Akwa Ibom State finances under Akpabio’s administration.

Similarly, the EFCC is making moves to invite key members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and serving commissioners, many of whom served during the ex-governor’s administration.

A source at the EFCC said, “We have written to Zenith Bank, Keystone Bank, FCMB, Skye Bank, and UBA demanding information on the state’s accounts. We are also inviting the accountant-general, the auditor-general, the Speaker and the clerk of the House of Assembly. We have traced some houses to the former governor in Lagos and Abuja and it is just a matter of time before we seize them.”

Akpabio was first quizzed by the commission’s detectives last year following series of petitions written against him. The former governor, now the Senate Minority Leader, was accused of embezzling public funds while he was governor of the oil-rich state.

In March 2013, he was accused of giving N1m each to six chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party from the South-South geopolitical zone that had converged on Port Harcourt for a party reconciliation session, telling them to use the money to “buy Mr Biggs.”

Few weeks ago, the Akwa Ibom State government had gone to a state High Court to get an interim order barring the EFCC from investigating Akpabio’s administration.

The Justice Ntong Ntong-led court on July 15 granted an interim injunction, restraining the EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, and the Inspector General of Police from investigating the finances of the Akwa Ibom State government.

The suit was filed on behalf of the state government by the state Attorney-General, Uwemedimo Nwoko, who also served under Akpabio and is believed to be loyal to the former governor.

However, following a motion on notice filed by the EFCC, the court on Friday, vacated the order of interim injunction restraining the EFCC from investigating the accounts of state.

The judge then adjourned the matter till October 19 for hearing of the preliminary objection of the EFCC alongside other applications.

In a June 22, 2015 petition to EFCC, an Abuja-based lawyer and activist, Leo Ekpenyong had accused Akpabio of sheer waste in office.

Among several other allegations, the petitioner alleged that between January and December 2014, the trio of Godswill Akpabio, a former aide to the governor and another associate made illegal but substantial withdrawals of cash from a designated state government-owned account with Zenith Bank with account number 101037588, amounting to N22.1bn.

When contacted on the telephone on Saturday, Akpabio’s spokesman, Mr. Aniete Ekong, said he was in a public place and promised to call back. However, he had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

How my trip to U.S. is funded — Aisha Buhari

How my trip to U.S. is funded — Aisha Buhari

Aisha, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, on Saturday said her ongoing trip to the United States was not being funded with public funds.

Speaking in an interview with the Hausa service of the Voice of America, Mrs. Buhari said the trip was being funded with personal funds and sponsorship grant.

“We sponsored even the government officials that came with us on this trip,” she said.

The president’s wife explained that the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration was not funding her office and that her role was just a supportive one to complement her husband’s services to the country.

Mrs. Buhari said the office of First Lady had become a tradition in almost all nations of the world, not just Nigeria.

“All that we are doing is to help our husbands,” she said.

“For instance someone can decide to give me Indomie or Maggie, which he cannot give to the president, women need these things.

“In any state where a governor’s wife is irrelevant such as Yobe, you will notice that the women are suffering.

“Whenever we get such gifts, we don’t keep them but share to those in need.”

The president’s wife also explained that the Nigerian government had put in place a special programme to help women.

She said she held a meeting with the Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan, before embarking on her U.S. trip on how to sensitize women on ways of taking advantage of the new policy.
“Very soon our women will get help,” she said.

Mrs. Buhari also responded to a question on why Nigerians are suffering at this time.

“This may be because of the existence of the Treasury Single Account, TSA, and the activities of Boko Haram which prevented people from farming last season,” she said.

I can never return to PDP...says whoever believes I’ve return to PDP will doubt his mother’s gender

I can never return to PDP...says whoever believes I’ve return to PDP will doubt his mother’s gender

Obasanjo

… says whoever believes I’ve return to PDP will doubt his mother’s gender

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has reiterated his last year exit from the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) to became an elder statesman, saying he left the party when it was still alive.

Obasanjo said having announced his exit from partisan politics publicly, it is unthinkable and preposterous for anybody to contemplate that he would reverse himself and returned to a comatose PDP

The ex – Chairman, Board of Trustee(BoT) of PDP made this known to reporters in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Saturday in a release, ostensibly to dismiss media report purportedly linking him with a meeting of the Convention Committee of his former party at the Shehu Musa Yar’ Ardua Centre, Abuja last Friday.

Obasanjo said whoever believes such false media report would certainly doubt the gender of his or her mother.

According to who was a two time elected President of Nigeria from 1999 – 2007, he attended farmers’ event at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre organused by the Commodities Association Stakeholders on “Zero Hunger Nigeria” and not for any PDP event.

He noted that those behind the media report linking him with the PDP convention committee’s meeting were probably looking for ways to annoy and embarrass him, but assured that anybody hoping to drag him back to PDP for whatever reason would fail just “like any man serving a dead mice to a cat.”

“If I quit a party when it was alive and seemingly united, how could I go back to a now divided, factionalized party gasping for breath?”

“Those who know me, know that I have publicly announced my quitting partisan politics and those who will believe the purported story will believe anybody who tells him that his or her mother is not a woman.

The elder statesman explained that he had ordinarily attempted to ignore the media report, but felt compelled to clarify the situation due to plethora of phone calls he was still receiving from people who were confused about the said report.

“To clear the minds of doubting Thomases and those behind the orchestrated news in circulation and particularly those who had been calling to ascertain what actually happened at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua centre”.

“The meeting commenced but few minutes into the session, his attention was drawn to the presence of some people walking up to where he was seated. At closer glance, he recognized them to be politicians and they exchanged pleasantries, saying they came to greet him and they walked out again from the meeting”.

The release which was signed by Obasanjo’s media aide, Mr Kehinde Akinyemi, stated that “Obasanjo cracked jokes with members of his former party on which platform he was elected as civilian president in 1999 before he later became the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) of same party, calling them ‘invaders and gate-crashers’.

“The programme ended and immediately he and his entourage headed back to Lagos. He was barely hours in Lagos when he started receiving calls from both far and near, wanting to find out about his presence at a political party programme in Abuja.

“The photo as well as the media report in circulation, which claimed that he was spotted at a political party event is therefore mischievous, as a responsible journalist ought to have gone further to ascertain his actual destination in among the number of venues at the centre.

“They simply took the photograph of his alighting from his vehicle to read another meaning. It is shocking also to note that the picture was actually taken while on his way out of the Centre after the programme he attended had ended.

“This is height of irresponsible journalism, which the former President is calling for its investigation and sanction on anybody involved in order to serve as deterrent to others who may want to be used either by omission or commission to misinform the public on such sensitive issue.”
