Speedy passage of money laundry bill, others will help my anti-corruption fight – Buhari begs NASS

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the National Assembly to speedily pass five Executive bills in other to aide his anti-corruption crusade.

Buhari while making the appeal at a dinner he organised in honour of the National Assembly members at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday night, listed the bills to include, the Money ‎Laundry and Prevention Bill of 2016‎, Bills for Acts for domestication of agreements for avoidance of double taxation between Nigeria, South Korea, Spain and Sweden.

Others include, Mutual legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Bill, 2016 the Federal Capital Territory Appropriation Bill, 2016 and Statutory Budget of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC‎, 2016.


The President, however, promised that his administration would continue to respect the principle of separation of power as enshrined in the constitution.

He said, “This is first, to mark the 2016 Democracy Day and further to appreciate the National Assembly leadership, membership and management for the great work they have done in considering and approving as thought fit several bills and measures submitted by the executive and those bills originated by the legislature which have enabled the government function according to law.

“Let me again appreciate the work of the National Assembly for the painstaking and consensual work they did with the Executive to deliver the 2016 Appropriation Act.

“It is on record that this is one rare occasion where the Appropriation Act was assented to with the schedule i.e the details. This is a good start in our journey of change.


“I seize this opportunity to please draw attention to the under listed bills which have been submitted to the National Assembly and appeal for accelerated consideration and passage.

“I am conscious that on June 9, 2016, the National Assembly will complete one legislative year.

“May I appeal to you to consider and pass these submitted bills, particularly the statutory budget of the FCT, the NDDC Budget and the budget of statutory corporations.

“These bodies cannot execute their statutory mandate nor incur expenditure for the year unless their budgets are approved by the National Assembly.

“I hereby re-state the commitment of this administration to observe the principles of separation of powers which define and delineate the functions and powers of each arm of government.

“Thus far, we in the executive have restricted ourselves to our constitutional roles. Therefore I, as the President, and we as the Executive arm of government will not interfere in the functions, functioning and process of the Legislature nor the Judiciary.

“In the same vein, I urge other arms of government to please appraise and ensure that each action conceived and taken by it is in strict accord with its constitutionally limited powers.

“I urge you as legislators and the legislature to take out time and communicate with your constituents and other Nigerians the policies of the government which are based on laws approved by the National Assembly.”

Tragic! 46-year-old Woman Commits Suicide in a Forest After Testing Positive to HIV in Enugu

In a shocking news, a woman has gone to the bush and took her own life in a tragic fashion after learning about her HIV status.

A 46-year-old woman, identified as Celestina Mamah from Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, has reportedly killed herself after testing positive to HIV/AIDS.

According to reports, the woman went to a forest and stabbed herself to death after learning about her status. Police investigation shows that the victim had left her home on May 28 at about 6pm and headed to a forest near Ogwu Rest House in Udenu Local Government Area of the state where she allegedly committed suicide.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Enugu state police command, DSP Ebere Amaraizu confirmed that the woman allegedly tested positive to HIV after a test at a nearby hospital.

Her corpse was found the following day at about 11am.

Gunmen killed owner of hotel for ‘snatching their boss girlfriend’

Gunmen have killed Michael Olutoye Ogunlusi, the owner Alloizie Hotel on Ishawo Road, Owutu area of Ikorodu in Lagos State.
The gunmen, who stormed the hotel on Friday at about11pm, after tying the guards on duty, shot Ogunlusi to death.

They were said to be four in number, spotting black jeans, T-shirts and with face caps.


Ogunlusi, who was said to be in one of the rooms of the hotel, was unaware when the gunmen came in.

After ordering all guests at the reception area into one of the rooms, one of the gunmen proceeded to the room where the owner of the hotel was and pumped bullets into him, accusing him of usurping the girlfriend of their boss.

The acting Police Public Relations Officer for Lagos State, Chukwuma Ozoani, confirmed the development,
Ozoani said four persons had been arrested in connection with the killing.

He said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department for further investigation.

BREAKING: IGP orders disarmament of IPOB

‎Solomon Arase, inspector-general of police (IGP), has ordered the immediate disarmament of members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Arase’s order followed the killing some police officers in Asaba, Delta state, by a mob of Biafra campaigners on Monday.

He gave the order to the heads of the police formations in the southeast, saying that IPOB had crossed the line.

“Following the manifestation of the disposition of the armed Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) activists to undertake premeditated attacks on Police officers engage in operations aimed at restoring public order in states in the south-east and south-south geopolitical zone of the country, the inspector-general of police,IGP Solomon E. Arase has directed the assistant inspectors general of police and the commissioners of police in the affected area to disarm members of the group operating firearms immediately,” a statement issued by Olabisi Kolawole, police spokesperson, on Tuesday, read.

“The IGP noted that the targeted attacks on Police personnel, who have been performing their statutory functions in the most professional and civil manner since the latest resurgence disorder, portrays the IPOB activists who are orchestrating the insurrection as having crossed the threshold in their misguided attempt to test the common will of the nation.

“IGP Arase, while condemning the killing by members of IPOB, also directed the arrest of any member of the group found in possession of firearm and bring him/her to deserved justice, while all IPOB activists arrested in connection with the killing of the Policemen should be charged to court for murder.”

The police say that they “will continue to diligently work towards eliminating any threat to internal security and assure Nigerians of their commitment to their safety and security.”‎

What killed Abacha also killed Abiola, I have video evidence against Yoruba people – Al-Mustapha

A former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, Monday, said he would soon open up on what actually killed his boss and the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief Bashorun MKO Abiola.

Al-Mustapha said he would unveil the untold story of how the duo died in his new book, Mustapha’s Memoirs, which, according to him, is still being worked on.

Al-Mustapha, who addressed journalists in Lagos yesterday, said one thing killed his boss and the late MKO.


He said: “For instance, when Chief MKO Abiola was in prison, many notable Nigerians visited him. They will visit him in the morning, and when they come back to the Villa in the evening to see Abacha, they would say a different thing entirely.

“Unknown to these notable Nigerians, particularly notable Yoruba personalities, who visited Abiola, their visits were recorded on video. I did the video recording without their knowledge.

“These people would visit Abiola and come back to tell government a different thing about him.

“These same people would still go and tell Abiola a different thing about government. They are on video. The agencies of government have these videos evidence.


“These same people told MKO Abiola never to accept any compromise or negotiations. They advised him never to come back home without his mandate. All these things are on video.

“Of all the Yoruba leaders, only Oba Tejuosho told MKO Abiola the truth: to accept the conditional bail and go home.

“Only Oba Tejuosho told MKO Abiola that Abacha was his friend, urging him to reconcile with Abacha who was ready for reconciliation. It was Oba Tejuosho who told MKO Abiola that he still had the goodwill and would win if he re-contests after Abacha.

“What killed Abacha is what killed MKO Abiola. But I would reveal that after my court case, still at the Supreme Court. I would publish a book which has three volumes— the Mustapha’s Memoirs, which will tell what happened under Abacha and how he died.”

On Abacha loot still being returned to the country from abroad, 18 years after his death, Al-Mustapha said he was shocked the first time he heard of Abacha’s loot.

He added that most of what was today known in the media as Abacha’s loot were mere media campaigns aimed at smearing the late Sani Abacha’s image by local and international persons he stepped on their toes while he was Head of State.

Also, Al-Mustapha restated his call for a public debate, where former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, would come to backup claims in his infamous 18-page letter that he (Al-Mustapha) was contracted to head a killer squad of 1,000 snipers for former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, ahead of the 2015 general elections.

He said: “Nobody contracted me to catch 1,000 mosquitoes under the Jonathan administration, let alone human beings. I am Al-Mustapha. I have my background away from the propaganda peddled by the likes of Obasanjo.

“Obasanjo has had his day. I am doing my investigation and I have discovered so many things as to what made him (Obasanjo) make such allegation. I have it. I will release it very soon and that is why I have challenged him to an open debate. “Obasanjo is my senior in the force; he was a former Military Head of State, but when issues of law and rights of man are being discussed, definitely equality comes to the fore.

“You cannot put an allegation against your junior because you are a senior, and you believe the junior would keep quiet. No, I would not. That would amount to ignorance. I am not ignorant about our laws.

“I challenge Obasanjo to an open debate so that he can substantiate his allegations before the whole world; but he is yet to oblige the challenge.

“Thank God a new government is here today, where he (Obasanjo) can bring up the issue, requesting it to investigate and, if there is any contract between Jonathan and I to catch one single mosquito, I want to say that I am guilty and want to be tried.”

Northern Governors ready for major operation against cattle rustlers – Ganduje

The 19 northern governors are set for a mega operation against the menace of cattle rustling in the region.

This disclosure was made by Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Gnaduje at a chat with journalists in Kano.

He said governors had discussed the matter extensively at the Northern Governors’ Forum and had agreed to jointly address it.


“We are very much concerned about cattle rustling in the region, hence the decision to face the problem squarely. Already the governments of Katsina, Zamfara, Bauchi and Kaduna states have sent their delegations to Kano in that respect.

“All stakeholders are being encouraged to contribute their own roles”, he said.

Ganduje added that in Kano state over 10,000 stolen cows were so far recovered and returned to their rightful owners by the committee set up by his administration to handle matters related to cattle rustling.

Ogoni clean-up: Buhari visits Niger Delta June 2 amid bombing of installations

President Muhammadu Buhari will launch the Ogoni land clean-up on June 2, a statement has said.

This was contained in a statement issued by Chijioke Amu-Nnadi, the Head of Corporate Affairs unit of the Niger Delta Development Commission, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Monday.

It stated that the Minister of the Environment, Amina Mohammed, confirmed the date when she visited Bodo in Gokana Local Government Area of the state to inspect an oil spill clean-up demonstration.


The statement quoted Mohammed as saying that the President had given assurances that the area would be cleaned-up in fulfilment of his electioneering promise to people of the Niger Delta.

She was quoted as having said: “I can confirm that President Buhari will visit Ogoni land on June 2 to flag-off clean-up of oil spills in the area as recommended in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) report.

“Buhari would return to Ogoni land where he inaugurated a fish pond in 1984 where the once flourishing pond regrettably had been destroyed by oil pollution.

“The Federal Government is coming back to restore the ecosystem to what it used to be and as such restore the peoples’ source of livelihood.


“We are not just committed to implementing the UNEP report but we are also going beyond that by taking steps to improve security, good governance and economy of the Niger Delta region.

“I can assure that the clean-up exercise is only the beginning, as Mr President is focused on restoring hope to people of the region.”

Mohammed solicited support of all stakeholders to make the exercise a success.

The statement also quoted Ibim Semenitari, the Acting Managing Director of the NDDC, as saying that the clean was of utmost importance to the commission.

Semenitari lauded the President for taking steps to fulfil his electioneering promise of improving welfare and living conditions of people of Ogoni and others in the region.

She said: “Ogonis are united behind this effort by the Federal Government to clean up their environment, and as such, the people will help in ensuring sustainability of the clean-up.”

Semenitari said NDDC, through the Niger Delta Regional Development Master Plan Forum, would mobilise and coordinate support of various stakeholders to make the clean-up a success.

The UNEP report was released in September 2011, with a call on the Nigeria and multinational oil companies to clean-up Ogoniland.

2016 budget was a nasty experience, I’ve never heard of ‘padding’ – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has described the process that finally led to the signing of the 2016 budget as “a nasty experience for us”.

Buhari said the issue of “padding” made the budget process more difficult for him and members of the Federal Executive Council, as some of them heard about it for the time.


Buhari, on Monday told State House Correspondents that: “Things were even more difficult during the budget, which you all know about.

“For somebody like me, for the first time, I heard what is called padding.

“So, really, it was a nasty experience for us. It was also a nasty experience for some of the ministers who were never in government, for them to sit down day and night to work.

“I saw them, some of them literarily lost weight because they were sleeping less, eating less and working on every kobo to be spent.”


Buhari acknowledged that the country’s reliance on one commodity, oil, had adversely affected the nation’s economy.

He said: “This is the condition we found ourselves and this change mantra had to go through hell up till yesterday.”

PDP needs Sheriff, Governors begging him to withdraw suit – Taraba Governor

Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku has disclosed that PDP governors are begging the ousted chairman of the party, Senator Ali Madu Sheriff, to withdraw the court case he instituted challenging his removal.

Ishaku told newsmen in Jalingo yesterday that Sheriff had done his best for the party and deserved to be honoured.

Ishaku recalled that he and the governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, endorsed Sheriff as the only candidate for the party’s chairmanship from North-East.


He said they, however, changed their mind at the party’s national convention held in Port Harcourt, when Sheriff was rejected by 10 out of 12 governors.

“It’s only myself and Dankwambo that supported Sheriff at the convention and we have no option than to allow the voice of the majority to prevail,” Ishaku said.

He said the only solution was for Sheriff to withdraw his suit from the court, complaining that the treatment Sheriff got was not proper as he did his best for PDP.

‘‘We need people like Sheriff in the PDP and therefore, we must beg him to withdraw his case because, failure to do that could lead to more crises,” he said.
