The embattled governor wished the Muslim faithful a happy Eid-El-Fitr Sallah celebrations, urging them to continue to practice the good deeds they imbibed during the period of Ramadan.

Ikpeazu, who said he was very conversant with the tenets of Islam and has a lot of respect for the Muslim faith, stressed that Nigerians must come together as one to promote unity and oneness. He urged the people to support President Muhammdu Buhari and the fight against corruption in the country.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation, Alhaji Musa Iheakaram said they were at the government house to express solidarity with the Abia state governor and thank him for his love for Muslims in the state.

Other members of the delegation were Chief Imams of Aba, Umuahia, Lokpanta and Ohafia, as well as Sarkin Hausa Aba and Umuahia and Sarkin Fulanin Umuahia. Justice Okon Abang had on Monday, June 27 declared Ikpeazu unfit to occupy the Abia state governor’s office over the case of tax evasion, ordering him to vacate office as governor.

Abang ordered that Sampson Ogah, who came second in the PDP primaries, should be sworn in as the governor. Ogah was also issued the Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja on Thursday, June 30, but his hopes were dashed following an injunction by the Abia state High Court forbidding his swearing in.
