Commotion recently took over a wedding party in Adamawa after a hunter, identified as Festus, accidentally killed two guests.
The wedding party took place in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
According to Punch Metro, the hunter, who, along with his colleagues, was thrilling guests with gunfire display, allegedly encountered some difficulties with his locally-made rifle.
He was reportedly adjusting the barrel when the gun went off, killing two guests on the spot and injuring several others.
Festus, said to be popular in the community, was immediately arrested and handed over to the police.
Northern City News gathered that the incident, which occurred last week, was being amicably resolved between the families of the hunter and relatives of the deceased who also belonged to the hunters association in the area.
An official of the hunters association, who spoke in confidence, said that the union was making frantic efforts to secure the bail of the hunter.
He claimed the relatives of the deceased had agreed to stop the prosecution of Festus for culpable homicide, noting that they perceived the incident to be a case of accidental discharge and not murder.
“The relations of the decease are already in Yola to swear to a court affidavit asking the police to stop the prosecution of the matter. We are hopeful that the matter would be amicably resolved as their relations who are cooperating with us also agreed that the shooting was not deliberate,” the official said.
