Participants at a conference held in Shanghai, China were amused seeing a human-like robot holding a conversation with them.
During the conference, the realistic AI humanoid also made specific facial expressions when asked various questions, including whether or not she had a boyfriend.
The life-like robot is the brain child of Chen Xiaoping and his colleagues at the University of Science and Technology of China.
The robot's 'brain', which is essentially a huge online database, is connected to a cloud computing platform that allows her to enhance her ability to process emotions and speech as new data is uploaded.
It is however predicted that within a decade or so, Artificially Intelligent (AI) robots like Jia Jia would begin performing a range of menial tasks in Chinese restaurants, nursing homes, hospitals and households.
