Buhari should wear Fulani herdsmen attire to present 2017 budget – Fayose

Ayodele Fayose, the governor of Ekiti state, has reacted to a storm of reactions caused by a military camouflage he wore to the presentation of the state’s 2017 budget on Tuesday, December 7.

Speaking through Lere Olayinka, his special assistant on media and publicity, the governor agressively reacted to harsh criticism coming from the rival the All Progressive Congress (APC) party members.

Throughtout the day Mr Olayinka kept sending the messaged on behalf of Mr Fayose, where he defended his boss, insulted critics and suggested President Muhammadu Buhari to present 2017 budget dressed like a Fulani herdsmen.

He wrote: "If your concern is what a man wears to the office and not how well he performs his duties in the office, I doubt if your head is correct!

No wonder you supported a Buhari, who left office in 1985 and did not gain any academic, travel, business or even reading experience as president and Nigeria is now in depression.

If Buhari likes, let him dress like FULANI HERDSMEN to the National Assembly to present 2017 Budget.

Wetin be my own? All I’m interested in is for the Budget to translate to better living conditions for Nigerians.

When you are told that you are acting STUPID, and your response is that someone also acted STUPID last year.

Your case file is waiting for you at YABA LEFT and ARO in Abeokuta."

TB Joshua's prophesy on Trump becoming person of the year comes TRUE (video)

A storm of reactions has been caused by TIME Magazine’s declaration of US President-elect Donald Trump as its Person Of The Year.

TB Joshua's prophesy on Trump becoming person of the year comes TRUE (video)

The cover page shows a photo of the future controversial president captioned with "President Of The Divided States Of America."

Nancy Gibbs, the editor-in-chief of TIME, explained the decision: "This is the 90th time we have named the person who had the greatest influence, for better or worse, on the events of the year.

So which is it this year: better or worse? The challenge for Donald Trump is how profoundly the country disagrees about the answer. It’s hard to measure the scale of his disruption…"

Social media users immediately recalled the previous choices of the magazine including Adolf Hitler, Vladmir Putin, Stalin and other divisive leaders and prominent figures.

Followers of T.B. Joshua, Nigerian self-proclaimed prophet, quickly recalled that in his prophecy about the US elections, the cleric said Trump would receive such an award.

"After the election, they should award him the man of the year. Challenges don’t mean anything to him. The more you abuse him, they more he comes out to talk and smile," he stated on November 6, 2016.

TIME began awarding its Person of the Year honour in 1927. The profile covers whichever person, group, idea or object that "for better or for worse … has done the most to influence the events of the year".

BUHARI BLOWS HOT, FINALLY BARS OBASANJO FROM ASO ROCK

BUHARI BLOWS HOT, FINALLY BARS OBASANJO FROM ASO ROCK

President Muhammadu Buhari, has finally dumped ex-President, Olusegun Obasanjo’s advice, to halt the plan to $29.9 billion. Recall, that Obasanjo, had few weeks ago in a scathing remark, called on the President, to shelve the thought of borrowing $29.9 billion, to fund capital projects across the States.

The former President, had asked Buhari to stay off the loan, saying that it would mortgage the nation’s future. “I believe that going for a huge loan under any guise, is inadvisable, and it will amount to going the line of soft option, which will come to haunt us in future.

“We immediately need loans to stabilise our foreign reserve, and embark on some infrastructure development, but surely not $30 billion, over a period of less than three years,’’ Obasanjo had said. However, latest report revealed that Buhari has decided to ignore calls that he should shelve plans to borrow $29.9 billion, and has distanced himself from the ex-President.

A source said:  “We are going ahead with the loans, but we will allay the fears of ex-President Obasanjo with necessary documents on the sources and plans.“I think the ex-President needs some details. We are certainly going to engage Obasanjo. We will not take issues with him in the media.

“It is to the credit of Obasanjo, that he secured debt reliefs for the nation. We want him to realize that we are not out to pile up fresh debts for the nation. “These loans are coming from some liberal creditors, including the World Bank, Africa Development Bank (AfDB), Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA), and China EximBank.

“What Nigerians do not know, is that we had many offers, but were careful in selecting our loan facilitators. “For instance, the Buhari administration rejected loan offers from the International Monetary Funds (IMF), because of Nigerians’ attitude to the international agency for such a bail out in 1990.

“Yet out of the $29.9 billion loans, the Federal Government’s share is $25.8 billion, while the States will enjoy $4.1 billion facility.” The source added:  “There is no way we can even implement 2017 budget without the loans. We are in dire straits. We need some breather to revive the economy.

“It is not physical cash as being assumed. All the institutions will be involved in the management of the loans to ensure judicious use. “And for a prudent government like that of Buhari, there is 100 percent assurance that the loans will not be mismanaged, unlike the case in the past.”

Responding to a question, the highly-placed source added: “The government has mandated the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, to engage the ex-President on the indices behind obtaining the loans. Our hands are tied, because of lack of funds to implement laudable projects.

“The Minister will then return with a feedback from the ex-President on how we can manage the loans better. Fortunately for Buhari, the Minister is more or less a “goddaughter” of Obasanjo. “Whatever is the communication gap, we will use the engagement with Obasanjo to clear the air”.

Why we withdrew Wike’s Chief Security Officer — Police

Why we withdrew Wike’s Chief Security Officer — Police

The Nigeria Police Force, has said that it redeployed the Chief Security Officer to the Rivers State Governor, DSP Promise Nwosu, for taking part in a political rally organised by the All Progressives Congress.

Describing his action as gross professional misconduct, it stated that Nwosu was found among the protesting party faithful on November 17,2016, in a manner prejudicial to discipline and displaying conduct unexpected of an officer of his calibre and office.

This was contained in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, by the Force Public Relations, Donald Awunah.

The statement was in reaction to allegations by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, that the CSO’s withdrawal was meant to make him vulnerable to physical attacks during the forthcoming legislative rerun in the state.

Wike had announced the withdrawal of his CSO last Monday and alleged that the police were partisan and plotting to compromise his security, stressing that he was looking up to God and the youths to protect him.

But in its first reaction to the allegation, the police stated that the CSO’s participation in the political rally of an opposition party to the governor in a clandestine and suspicious manner was considered mischievous and detrimental to the security of the state and public order and also contrary to his oath of office which constituted an offence.

Awunah said when questioned by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in Rivers State, the former CSO demonstrated brazen indiscipline and showed disrespect to the senior officer, “exhibiting conduct that violates all known norms of the force.”

He said, “In the course of monitoring the public protest, an Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in Rivers State observed the presence of the CSO among the protesting partisan crowd as illegal, unlawful and outside prescribed schedule of the duties of a CSO.

“The active presence of the CSO to the governor in a partisan crowd of an opposition party to the governor in a clandestine and suspicious manner was considered mischievous and detrimental to the security of the state and public order and also contrary to his oath of office which constitute an offence against discipline.

“The CSO to the governor, when challenged by a superior officer demonstrated brazen indiscipline and showed disrespect to the senior officer, exhibiting conduct that violates all known norms of the force.

“Accordingly, the CSO was officially queried for discreditable conduct, insubordination, engaging in partisan political activities, illegal duty and act unbecoming of a public officer.”

The police spokesman further explained that as a result of the gross misconduct and apparent partisanship by Nwosu, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, ordered his redeployment pending further disciplinary action.

I was more popular than any PDP governor, says Amaechi

I was more popular than any PDP governor, says Amaechi

Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, says he was “more popular than any PDP stakeholder, including governors” during his eight years at the helm of Rivers state.

Amaechi, who presided over the state between 2007 and 2015, said his goodwill remained intact throughout his tenure because he never abused office.

Amaechi spoke in Port Harcourt after arriving in the state for Saturday’s legislative rerun election.

“During my tenure as governor, l never abused the office. The office of the governor is sacred and should be respected in all ramifications,” he said.

“When I was governor, I had over 75 per cent support from Rivers people and other Nigerians resident in the state. l am very sure l had more popularity than any PDP stakeholder including governors across the country.

“This is so because, as governor then, l overhauled the health and education sectors by promoting free healthcare system and free education, over 10,000 teachers were employed, including the building of critical infrastructures, roads and youth empowerment, making Rivers people and other Nigerians to experience change.”

He appealed to supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to turn out en masse for the rerun election, assuring them of their safety.

He accused opponents of his party of employing desperate means to secure victory, but asked the people to resist them.

“This is another opportunity for us to exercise our right to vote for candidates of our choices. You would recall that the last time the elections were held, members of the APC were brazenly, crudely and violently prevented from exercising their inalienable rights to elect those they wanted,” he said.

“Those same characters and forces that stole our votes by violently denying us the right to vote the last time are at it again.

“In the months and weeks leading to this Saturday’s election, they have employed the use of violence and intimidation and harassment all aimed at preventing us from coming out to vote.

“They have turned our hitherto peaceful state into a haven of brazen criminality, culminating in killings and maiming of innocent citizens.

“However, it is gratifying to know that the Commander-in- Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari, has assured the security of lives and property in the state before, during and after the election. Mr. President has graciously provided adequate security through the length and breadth of the state.

“I therefore enjoin you all to come out en masse and exercise your civic right on Saturday. I  implore you all to come out and exercise your rights to vote now that you have a chance to vote and your vote will count. Choose wisely, vote APC.”

NCAA asks Arik -to return luggage of London-Lagos passengers — after 5 days

NCAA asks Arik -to return luggage of London-Lagos passengers — after 5 days

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has waded into the row between Arik Air and at least 40 passengers who have been protesting the non-arrival of their baggage for five days since arriving Nigeria from London.

On Wednesday, NCAA directed Arik Air to return all the delayed baggage within the next 24 hours. It also directed the airline to compensate the affected passengers with $150 each for their troubles.

The directive was issued by Adamu Abdullahi, the agency’s director of consumer complaints department.

The aggrieved passengers had disrupted the airline’s operations and also allegedly damaged its check-in counter at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

Addressing the passengers, Abdullahi appealed to them to remain calm as both Arik Air and the aviation authorities were working towards resolving the issue.

“NCAA has directed Arik Air to pay each and every passenger a compensation of $150 each in line with civil aviation rules and regulations in Nigeria,” he said.

“We have sent the letter to the airline and it also contains a directive that every bag must be here within the next 24 hours. A directive is a directive and we will hold Arik Air management responsible, and I can assure you that they will abide by the directive.”

Abdullahi advised the passengers against taking the laws into their hands.

Saleh Dunoma, managing director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), urged those who needed medical attention to visit the FAAN clinic within the airport.

Dunoma said the doctors had been directed to issue prescription drugs to passengers whose medications had yet to arrive the country due to the delay.

Femi Kukoyi, associate vice-president, ground operations department of Arik, apologised to the passengers for the inconveniences.

Kukoyi said the airline had to charter an aircraft which brought some of the baggage to Lagos on Wednesday morning because the passengers prevented it from operating its A330 aircraft on Tuesday.

He assured them that an aircraft was en route to Lagos from London, and would arrive with about 300 bags by 7pm, while the remaining would be brought in by another of its aircraft by 5am on Thursday.

On the issue of compensation, he said Arik would attend to them on an individual basis, and he expressed optimism that everything would be resolved amicably.

Ifeanyi Uchendu and Johnson Agwu, two of the passengers who spoke to NAN, berated the airline for the shabby treatment of the passengers.

They said the airline had earlier promised that their bags would arrive latest on Tuesday, and also promised to give a compensation of N50,000 to each of the affected passengers.

Reps push for financial autonomy for NASS, Judiciary, INEC

Reps push for financial autonomy for NASS, Judiciary, INEC

Rt Hon. Yakubu Dogara (Speaker, House of Representatives)

…To give State control over mineral resources

The House of Representatives is pushing for financial autonomy for the National Assembly, State Houses of Assembly, Federal and State Judiciary as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and it’s State version.

The lawmakers have also waded into the resource control controversy by commencing the process of grating States the control of mineral resources in their domain.

This followed the second reading of a bill sponsored by Aminu Shagari (APC, Sokoto) who said the alteration of the 1999 constitution would place the Federal and State legiaalture, the judiciary and INEC on first line charge.

According to him, the two arms of government and INEC would no longer have to rely on the Executive for their finances if they truly want to carry out their statutory responsibilities independently.

The bill is seeking to alter Section 81 of the Constitution by adding two new sub-sections whereby “The President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission shall cause and laid before each House of National Assembly, at any time in each financial year, estimates of the revenues and expenditures of the National Assembly, the judiciary and the Independent National Electoral Commission respectively”.

The implication is that the heads of expenditures, proposed for the benefit of the National Assembly, the judiciary and INEC would henceforth be charged upon the Consolidated Revenue Fund.

Consequently, their money bills would be known as Consolidated Charge Fund (National Assembly) bill, Consolidated Charge Fund (Judiciary) bill and Consolidated Charge Fund (INEC) bill.

The bill is also seeking to delete Sub-section 3 of the constitution and replace it with a clause whereby any amount standing to the credit of the National Assembly, ,Judiciary and INEC shall be paid and disbursed directly to the Clerk of the National Assembly, National Judicial Council and Chairman INEC respectively for disbursement and management.

Alteration of Section 121 was meant to effect same changes at State level.

“The essence of the alteration is to allow the legislature, the judiciary and the Electoral Commission at Federal and State prepare their estimates and present it before the Assembly.

“This will allow them to have their budgetary allocations disbursed directly to them.

“The intent of this is to truly make them independent in carrying out their statutory responsibilities and eliminate chances of being compromised.

“It goes without saying that they cannot be independent if they go cap in hand to the Executive every time for thier allocations,” Shagari said.

Similarly, the Minority Leader Leo Ogor (PDP, Delta) in his bill for an Act to alter the 1999 constitution to vest the control of the revenues derived from minerals, mineral oils and natural gas, under or upon any land in the State of the Federation, argued that the alteration was to relief the Exclusive List of some unnecessary burden while freeing up States to unlock their potentials.

He also said that the diversification of the economy drive of the government would become meaningful as States would henceforth have the benefit of concentrating on their individual strengths in production.

He said: “Nigeria is blessed with natural resources and there is no State that does not have natural resources they can depend on but monthly allocations from the Federation Account has made everyone lazy.

“If the overloaded Exclusive list is freed up and the Federal government allowed to concentrate on security and the most critical issues, then the States would have the opportunity of specialising in the production of natural resources at their disposal.

“If States would have to give a percentage of the earnings from their resources, every State would grow, if greater opportunity is provided for the States to manage their resources, the economy would grow. This is the foundation for diversification”.

Emmanuel Oker-Jev, said the bill must be supported because it was aiming to accomplish what the 2014 National Conference failed to do on resource control.

The two bills scaled second reading after being put to voice vote by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara who referred them to the special ad hoc Committee on the review of the 1999 constitution.

EFCC: Jonathan’s wife’s $15.5m ‘is a proceed of crime’

EFCC: Jonathan’s wife’s $15.5m ‘is a proceed of crime’

Patience Jonathan

…Again, women storm court for ex-First Lady

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has asked the Federal High Court in Lagos to dismiss a suit by wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience.

In its counter-affidavit to the suit, the commission said the $15.5 million which Mrs Jonathan claims belongs to her is “a proceed of crime”.

Mrs. Jonathan, in the civil suit before Justice Mohammed Idris, is claiming that EFCC froze four of her accounts with Skye Bank in the name of four companies.

The accounts, she said, have a balance of $15,591,700 (about N5 billion) belonging to her.

But, the companies, on September 15, pleaded guilty and were convicted for laundering the money when they were arraigned in a criminal charge before Justice Babs Kuewumi.

The judge, however, refused to order the money’s forfeiture to the Federal Government until the trial of the others named in the charge was concluded.

The companies are: Pluto Property and Investment Company Ltd (represented by Friday Davis), Seagate Property Development and Investment Company Ltd (represented by Agbor Baro), Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Ltd (represented by Dioghowori Frederick) and Avalon Global Property Development Ltd (represented by Taiwo Ebenezer).

EFCC arraigned them with a former Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to President Jonathan, Waripamo Dudafa, a lawyer, Amajuoyi Briggs and a banker, Adedamola Bolodeoku.

Dudafa, Briggs and Bolodeoku pleaded not guilty to the 17-count charge.

Mrs. Jonathan, in the suit before Justice Idris, is seeking an order to de-freeze the accounts and release her money.

Wednesday, her lawyer Adedipe told Justice Idris that his client amended her processes. He said he also filed a motion to regularise them, which the court granted.

EFCC’s lawyer, Oyedepo Rotimi, said he would also amend his response to the suit.

Justice Idris said: “Leave will be granted to the respondent (EFCC) to file any amended process.”

Rotimi accused the applicant of changing the companies’ address through which the suit was purportedly served on them. Mrs Jonathan joined the companies in her suit.

The EFCC lawyer said: “We are of the opinion that if you want to change the address of a party, it should not the adversary who will change the address of another party.

“What we saw was the applicant was changing the address of the other defendants and I don’t think that is tidy.”

Women again stormed the court yesterday in solidarity with Mrs Jonathan. Some of them struggled to gain access to the already-packed courtroom, which became very congested.

Justice Kuewumi had on November 2 refused order the forfeiture of $15.5million after convicting the companies in whose accounts the money is domiciled.

The judge said he would hand down a sentence on the companies after the trial of the others who pleaded not guilty in the charge.

While reviewing the facts, Rotimi said the money was stolen from the State House, Abuja.

He said: “EFCC received an intelligence report showing vividly that the fourth to seventh defendants retained proceeds of crime.

“Our investigations showed that Fetus Iyoha admitted receiving the fund from the first defendant (Dudafa). Iyoha is a domestic staff at the State House. He admitted that funds credited into the accounts were given to him from the State House.”

Rotimi said Iyoha paid $3,096,377.38 into Pluto’s account; paid $3,410,534.71 into Seagate’s account, paid $3,765,711.87 into Trans Oceans’ account, and paid $250,000 into Avalon Global’s account.

Mrs Jonathan claimed she operated the accounts even though they were opened in the companies’ names by Dudafa contrary to her instructions.

She said the bank promised to rectify the issue by changing the names to hers’, but never did so.

Justice Idris adjourned until January 18 for hearing.

Trial in case before Justice Kuewumi will continue on December 14.

Why I Fell in Love with My Husband - Senator Ita-Giwa Talks About Romance

Why I Fell in Love with My Husband - Senator Ita-Giwa Talks About Romance

Senator Florence Ita-Giwa

Senator Florence Ita-Giwa has talked about romance and relationship as she reveals why she fell in love with her late husband.

A former presidential special adviser, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, has revealed how and why she fell in love with her late husband.

While speaking on Hit FM radio programme on Wednesday in Calabar, Ita-Giwa said she fell in love and married Dele Giwa because of his Press Snaps column.

According to her, her interest in journalism grew as a result of the works of her mother, Beatrice Bassey-Ita and the likes of Peter Enahoro and Sam Amuka, among others.

She revealed that she got married to Dele Giwa just barely three weeks after first contact as a result of his intellectual prowess.

While recounting the lovely days she spent with her late husband Dele Giwa, a former Editor-in-Chief of Newswatch magazine who was killed by a letter bomb on October 19, 1986, the former presidential adviser said that she followed him to his house on request on the first day that they met to know how he wrote his column.

She said, “I became attracted to journalism because of my mother and the likes of Peter Enahoro, Sam Amuka and others. My mother worked for West African Pilot and later Guardian before she joined Sketch where she retired.

“I stumbled into Dele Giwa because I liked his column. I did marry him eventually not because he was handsome, but what he had upstairs in his brain. When I met him coincidentally, I just told him that I have been reading his columns which I found entertaining and intellectually challenging.

“On that particular day, he looked at his time (watch) and said he was going to do his column, he requested if I follow him go to his house to see how he prepared his column, I agreed. I agreed. We drove from Surulere to Ikeja because I was curious.

“When we got to his house, he went to his study and brought out one old typewriter and sat on the table with a glass of water and cognac and started typing straight from his head without looking at any material.

“He did this up till about 3am the next morning, I was so amazed. I called my mum that early morning through his telephone (landline) to inform her that I was with Dele Giwa and that he was typing his column from his head.

“From that day, we never parted until we got engaged three weeks after. He was a beautiful and intellectually rich human being that had so much in his head. He was very fearless and prolific writer and I was always scared for his life.”

Pastor Iginla, who was on a three days apostolic mission to Botswana, was moved to tears when he heard of the pathetic situation of how a poor woman lives under a tree.

It was gathered that the woman was squatting from one place to the other, as people she squatted with couldn’t accommodate her anymore because they too are suffering and was forced to sleep under a tree. Her condition was so bad that her fingers and toes were chopped off and her children also deserted her, only one of her children stays with her.

Wike, PDP behind killings in Rivers state – Amaechi

Wike, PDP behind killings in Rivers state – Amaechi

Few days to the December 10 re-run elections in Rivers State, former governor of Rivers State and Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has alleged that Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike cannot deny his involvement and sponsorship of the killing of innocent Rivers people and stalwarts of the APC in the 2015 general elections and the March 19 re-run elections in the state.

Amaechi spoke with newsmen at the Port Harcourt International airport on arrival in the State for the Saturday re-run legislative elections.

He said the cache of arms and ammunitions Wike recovered from cultists during the first phase of the Rivers state Amnesty Programme were evidence to buttress his allegations. According to him,”Wike has not denied he did not kill people, he sponsored those who carried arms in the 2015 general elections, even, during the campaigns.”

“Our people were beaten, manhandled and others threatened, leaving many dead, but, we will not continue to allow these things to happen like that. Members of the PDP were also responsible for killing APC members in Omoku”.

When asked that PDP and Governor Wike alleged the Police and INEC in Rivers state have connived to manipulate election results in favour of APC, Amaechi said, “If Governor Wike and the PDP have justifiable evidence, let them present it to the general public and stop blackmailing me or INEC and Police.”

“The allegations are immaterial, null and void. Why is Wike and PDP making too much noise and fruitless allegations?” Amaechi argued that he is more popular than all those in the PDP because, when he left office in 2015 as Governor of Rivers state, he had over 75 per cent support from Rivers people and other Nigerians resident in the state.

According to him, “This is so because, as Governor then, l overhauled the Health and Education sectors by promoting Free Health care system and Free Education, over 10,000 teachers were employed, including the building of critical infrastructures, roads and youth empowerment, making Rivers people and other Nigerians to experience change.” “So l am very sure l had more popularity than any PDP stakeholder including Governors across the country.”

Amaechi also averred the All Progressives Congress,(APC) has been campaigning for candidates in the re-run election in remote parts of the state, adding that, his arrival from Abuja on Tuesday night to Port Harcourt marks the third visit to join stakeholders of the party for campaigns in the state.

He urged the people of the state to disabuse their minds against comments by the PDP and Governor Wike, which he said, were calculated to rubbish him in the eyes of right thinking persons, in order to score cheap popularity and further whip up public sentiments to heat up the polity.

“On Wednesday, l will also join the APC stakeholders to carry out further campaigns, while on Thursday, there will be national campaign for the Party in the state to indicate our readiness and preparedness for the re-run elections” Amaechi said.

He called on Rivers people and other Nigerians resident in the state, including supporters and stalwarts of the APC to turn out en- mass to vote on Saturday urging them to always protect their votes at election venues.

“Before now, l used to tell my Party members to vote and protect their votes, but there has been complaints of indecent attacks from the PDP , so, l have asked the APC party members to protect their votes and their lives as well, because the PDP cannot be bigger than everybody everywhere,” Amaechi explained.

By wearing army uniform at budget presentation Fayose is challenging President Buhari’s authority – APC

By wearing army uniform at budget presentation Fayose is challenging President Buhari’s authority – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has berated Governor Ayodele Fayose for wearing military camouflage to the House of Assembly on Tuesday to present his 2017 budget proposal. The party said such attitude represents conduct unbecoming of his high position in a constitutional democracy.

The party also frowned at the governor’s contempt for separation of powers as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, noting that arrogating the powers of the parliament to himself is a brazen trampling on the law, urging the National Assembly to save Nigerian Constitution from the governor’s executive lawlessness and recklessness.

Fayose had on Tuesday stormed the House of Assembly in a military camouflage to present budget estimate for the 2017 Appropriation. At the occasion, he said he was the Speaker of the House of Assembly while the substantive Speaker Kola Oluwawole was acting Speaker on the seat representing him.

The APC in a statement in Ado-Ekiti by its Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said Fayose’s conduct was an affront on the constitution and a brazen conduct suggesting that democracy was dead in Ekiti State. “We have always insisted that Fayose is a law unto himself and a threat to democracy in Nigeria, showing contempt for the law and would do anything to undermine the integrity of the supremacy of the constitution.

“As a man who has constituted himself as the law, Fayose has demonstrated several times that he has no respect for the nation’s constitutional democracy and the rule of law. “He sacked the House of Assembly for six months and ran 19 APC members out of the town with thugs and used seven PDP members to impeach APC Speaker in the House of Assembly of 26 members after he led thugs to invade the court to beat a judge and tore court records in the Chief Judge’s office.

“Fayose keeps his own army in the Government House that he regularly unleashes on his opponents, including using same armed thugs to prevent EFCC from doing its job when the governor stormed Access Bank with thugs to shield Mrs Fani-Kayode from EFCC scrutiny on her husband’s frozen account.

“Wearing army camouflage to the parliament to present the budget has confirmed our earlier claim that Fayose has army uniforms stocked at home with which he unleashed terror on the opposition during the Presidential and National Assembly elections,” he explained.

Describing Fayose’s mode of dressing as a collective insult and embarrassment to Ekiti people, Olatunbosun said the governor’s conduct was an affront to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces and officers and men of the armed forces as the only official and institution allowed to wear such uniform.

“The President of the federation is allowed to wear army uniform to perform certain official functions while the officers and men of the force can also wear it, and so by wearing army uniform to perform an official duty in the parliament, Fayose is challenging the authority of the President who is the only Head of Government allowed by law to wear army uniform. “Fayose may be running a mercenary ring and planning something sinister as we had earlier raised alarm.

It is time for the security agencies to take Fayose’s security breach seriously,” Olatunbosun said.

He added: “Since Ekiti State House of Assembly members are Fayose’s captives who cannot question his illegal conduct, we wish to ask the Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Army Staff if they granted Fayose permission to sew, keep and wear army uniform.

“We also call on the National Assembly to take parliamentary notice at Ekiti House of Assembly as a parliament that has collapsed and is irretrievably comatose and so needs intervention to save democracy and Nigerian law from those who have no respect for constitutional democracy and governance.

“Democracy is on life support in Ekiti State from the reckless desecration of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and so it is time the very bastion of democracy, the National Assembly, came to the aid of the nation’s constitution being held by the throat by Fayose who has unabashed contempt for constitutional order.”

Gunmen invade Lagos community, kidnap two landlords, one other

Gunmen invade Lagos community, kidnap two landlords, one other

Gunmen

There was tension in Ever Winning Avenue, in the Isheri Osun area of Lagos State after gunmen invaded the area and whisked away two landlords and a woman.

It was learnt that no fewer than 500 residents were sacked from the affected community.

Problem ensued last weekend when the gunmen, numbering about eight, invaded the neighbourhood and hijacked a woman, identified simply as Iya Mitchell.

A resident was quoted by Punch as saying that while the community was trying to raise the N6m ransom reportedly demanded to free the woman, the kidnappers returned to the community on Monday and made away with two landlords.

The names of the landlords were given as one Okon, a retired customs officer, and one Felix, who deals in electrical materials.

A community leader, who spoke with newsmen, said, “Some of us were relaxing outside around 7pm on Friday when we heard gunshots. We fled in different directions.

“After they had abducted Iya Mitchell, they went to another building, but the residents had fled. The entrance door of the building was riddled with bullets. We reported the matter at the Isheri Police Division and policemen came, but they left after some minutes.

“The following day, they called the woman’s husband for a ransom. I learnt they asked for N6m, but they are still negotiating. On Monday, around 7.30pm, they came again and took Mr. Okon and Felix. The gunmen were many.

“We are over 500 that live here. You can see how many of us are left. As soon as my children return from school today, we are leaving too.”

Another resident, who gave his name as Isiaka Rufai, called on the relevant security authorities to send military into the community.

“We are no longer safe here and that was why a lot of people packed out. Until Friday when the first kidnap happened, this community used to be lively. The police alone cannot secure this place. We also need military men to be here always. That is the only way we can be assured of our safety,” he said.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, who confirmed the development, said the police would ensure that the victims were rescued safely.

She said, “Three people were abducted. The case is under investigation and efforts are on to rescue them and arrest the perpetrators.”

Recall that armed men had on September 17 kidnapped nine landlords at Isheri, Ogun State,‎ a bothering town with Lagos State.
