Snakes cause panic in Bayelsa

Snakes cause panic in Bayelsa

Dickson

Sudden appearances of snakes especially Cobras on streets and homes in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital is creating panic among residents.

Some persons attributed the development to consistent rainfalls and floods experienced in many parts of the capital city.

Others, however, said the underdeveloped nature of Yenagoa which has bushes, unkempt canals and many undeveloped plots of land provide safe haven for snakes and reptiles.

Residents of the Apex Academy road of Amarata community on Imgbi road at the weekend were said to have discovered a giant cobra in a vehicle and rallied round to kill it.

One of the residents identified as Chidera, said the cobra was discovered in a vehicle owned by a trader.

“At about 7am, the owner of the vehicle, Emmanuel, called an auto repairer to fix the vehicle but discovered a large snake hiding in the vehicle.

“The man rushed to call some residents of the area to assist him. Some youths gathered and killed the snake”, he said.

Another resident identified as Joshua‎, said there have been movements of snakes around the Amarata since the rainfall started.

“Some weeks ago, I saw a huge snake at the back of my house in the morning. Attempts to kill the cobra failed as it was ready to strike”, he said.

But a local snake expert, Festus Ogienwon, advised residents to be careful while walking at night.

He further asked people to ensure their doors are tightly closed at all time to avoid snakes crawling into their apartments to hide.

CACOL tells EFCC to interrogate Patience Jonathan

CACOL tells EFCC to interrogate Patience Jonathan

The Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, CACOL has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to immediately invite the wife of the immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan for questioning over the allegations of money laundering involving herself, her aides and some Skye Bank officials.

Executive Chairman of the Coalition, Debo Adeniran said, “it is beginning to appear like the EFCC is disposed to ‘pampering’ some suspected corruption criminals in our country even though the Act that established the Commission gives it constitutional powers to carry out its duties without fear or favour.”

“The case of the wife of former President Jonathan epitomizes this reality. With the whole lot of confusion, allegations and counter-allegations, media war etc. that are attendant to the Mrs. Jonathan’s case, what else does the EFCC need to invite the person who is at the epicentre of the whole episode, even if just for questioning and clarifications?”

The renowned anti-corruption Crusader added that, “we are impressed by the efforts of the EFCC so far on the Mrs. Jonathan’s case including the arrest and ongoing prosecution of some the aides and the bankers involved. Yet, we cannot help but ask whether indeed the EFCC is being hindered from using the shortest cut to resolve this corruption imbroglio involving the wife of the immediate past President by inviting/summoning her?”

“The truth is that, Madam Jonathan is a Nigerian, like every other one, that must abide by the constitution of the country. What are the fears of EFCC? Does the EFCC handle ‘lesser’ Nigerians in one corruption case or the other in this mode? If we are serious about fighting corruption, we must not consider some people as ‘untouchables’, particularly when such people have been ‘cornered’ like the woman in question as long as the rule of law is not violated!”

Reiterating CACOL’s position on the saga, Adeniran continued, “Like we said when the news broke out that Madam Jonathan had openly laid claim to the $15m frozen in four company accounts and dared the anti-graft agency to invite her for questioning. We ask, how did she get the money and even the ones stacked in her account? That is what we Nigerians want to know.”

“As far as we can understand, she was just a civil servant, so as a civil servant, how did she manage to acquire such properties that worth such stupendous amount, because she would have earned less than 10% of the amount even if she had been a Director or Permanent Secretary in the Bayelsa Civil Service all of the entire years she has spent on earth!”

In concluding, Adeniran said, “we are calling on the EFCC to invite Madam Jonathan for questioning with immediate effect. This ‘beating around the bush’ approach is not going to strengthen the anti-corruption war, it can only weaken it. Name, Shame and Shun Corrupt Leaders, anywhere, anytime!”

Meanwhile, the EFCC has invited Department of State Services, DSS, operatives attached to Mrs Patience Jonathan during her reign as First Lady.

They are wanted based on intelligence that they moved huge amounts of money to financial institutions on behalf of their former principal

Behrami Criticizes Isaac Success’ Dancing Skills

Behrami admitted that he was not impressed when watching Success in a dance video and is not convinced by the 20-year-old’s dancing skills.

“It’s very bad. I saw him in one video touching his body and I was like ‘whats this?’,” the Swiss international told Wdsports.

Hull City 1-4 Arsenal: Gunners stroll to victory over 10 man hosts

Hull City 1-4 Arsenal: Gunners stroll to victory over 10 man hosts

Arsenal picked up a third consecutive Premier League win on Saturday as they beat Hull City 4-1.

Alexis Sanchez's double and goals from Theo Walcott and Granit Xhaka made the difference for the Gunners, who recovered from their midweek draw with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

The Chile attacker opened the scoring after just 17 minutes and could have doubled his tally when he stepped up to take a penalty, but failed to convert.

Having Jake Livermore sent off in the first half made it a seemingly impossible task for Hull to get anything out of it, and Walcott made things more comfortable when he added a second goal in the 55th minute.

Things got a bit nervier for Arsenal towards the end with Robert Snodgrass converting a penalty, but Sanchez was on hand again before Xhaka fired one in to round off a comfortable afternoon.

Unbelievable!!! Meet the 15-year-old Child Who Has Been Both a Boy and a Girl all His Life (Photo)

Unbelievable! Meet the 15-year-old Child Who Has Been Both a Boy and a Girl all His Life (Photo)

Kennedy Kagoni with his son who is both a boy and a girl

In what will come across as rather shocking development, a teenager has been found out to be both a boy and a girl.

Considered an outcast by family members in the village where his mother is married, Kennedy Kagoni, the father of an intersex child, himself born out of wedlock, is a distressed man. His son, who has both male and female sex organs, is now 15.

Not only did he lose his wife to a pastor, but now a s*x minority lobby group allegedly wants him dead for trying to expose their organisation as a ‘money-minting lobby’.

Kagoni says he was approached by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual and Intersex (LGBTI) lobby group headed by transgender activist Audrey Mbugua with the promise to assist his son overcome the condition that comes with heavy stigma. That was in 2010, two years after reading about his plight in a local daily.

The 47-year-old father of two claims he later parted ways with Audrey because of the activist’s religious inclination, motives and actual sexual orientation.

Kagoni was concerned that the promised help for his son was shrouded in secrecy and that financial help received on behalf of his son was not being channelled towards improving his suffering.

Matters worsened when some LGBTI members allegedly tried forcing him into unnatural sexual acts and weird forms of worship against his wish.

“They were using my child’s condition to enrich themselves. Audrey was not happy when I reported the matter to the Attorney General and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP),” he says.

Fearing for his safety, the man has been residing at the Redeemed Gospel Church in Nairobi’s Huruma estate for the last three years. Michael Obonyo, a pastor at the church, said the man needs help.

Kagoni claims he sought sanctuary in the church after three men made attempts on his life while in his house in Soweto slums on August 8, 2013.

He believes those after his life want to silence him against his quest for justice and truth by exposing their wayward ways. He reported the threats to police in Kayole, Nairobi.

“I saw strangers outside the house and when I peeped through the window, I noticed that one of them was armed. I screamed and that made them flee,” Kagoni says.

The complaint at Soweto Police Station was recorded under OB 11/9/8/2013. The DPP has unsuccessfully tried to push for completion of investigations into the alleged threats. Kagoni claims Audrey is not happy that the DPP was trying to push police to investigate the claims on his life. He notified the DPP about his troubles in 2014.

The previous year, he had reported to the same office, alleging that his child was being abused by the lobby group led by Audrey who had called him in 2010 promising to help.

We have stopped militants’ regular attacks on installations – Navy

We have stopped militants’ regular attacks on installations – Navy

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas, on Saturday said recent operations by the navy in the South-South and other parts of the country, have recorded huge success.

Ibas stated this while briefing newsmen at the end of the Third Quarter Route March, in Abuja.

The naval chief was represented by Rear Adm. Adeniyi Osinowo, Chief of Training and Operations, Nigerian Naval Headquarters.

He said that the operations, carried out in partnership with other security agencies, were in line with the navy’s mandate to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

Ibas attributed the successes to concerted efforts of the personnel in strategic and tactical levels of operations.

“We have significant cooperation as well from all cooperating agencies; w e have sharpened our skills as operational concept.

“We also have dedicated anti-piracy units in place within the past few months.

“All these to a reasonable extent have decimated the undesireable series of attacks we noticed in the early part of this year.

“As it is now, we have limited attacks on offshore and on the oil and gas infrastructure,” Ibas said.

The military recently cautioned militant groups operating in the Niger Delta to desist from acts of sabotage of face its wrath.

On the route march, the chief of naval staff said it was to test the fitness level of personnel in line with military tradition.

“Physical fitness is important and indeed an essental requirement for combat readiness and efficiency in all our operations both afloat and ashore.

“What we are witnessing today is part of the NN programme for the year, the third quarter 10 kilometer route march.

“It is designed to not only test our physical fitness but to also equip ourselves whether ashore or afloat,” Ibas said.

Inside Patience Jonathan’s N10 Billion Aridolf Resort Wellness & Spa

Inside Patience Jonathan’s N10 Billion Aridolf Resort Wellness & Spa

The investigation into the $20m found in the five accounts traced to Dame Patience Jonathan is heading into top gear. The anti-graft agency is considering seizing the N10bn Aridolf Resort Wellness and Spa, Yenagoa allegedly belonging to Mrs. Jonathan.

An anonymous source at the agency said:

“This is one of the questions she may have to answer as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission continues investigation into the $20m found in five accounts she has laid claim to.”

Interior View of The Aridolf

According the UK’s Financial Times:

“The Aridolf Hotel in Yenagoa is an unlikely monument to kitsch on a reclaimed swamp in Nigeria’s oil-producing Niger Delta. In the lobby, Louis XIV furniture is accompanied by bowls of plastic fruit, faux Dutch landscapes and a grotesquely gaudy chandelier. The hotel is redolent of the riches on display in a region that for half a century has generated the bulk of Nigeria’s wealth.”

“The Aridolf, which is owned by Patience Jonathan, wife of the former President, is symptomatic of how superficial progress has been in addressing the festering sense of marginalisation in the region, which remains desperately impoverished despite benefiting from a tide of petrodollars in recent years.”

The Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay speaking on the investigation said:

“The EFCC and ICPC Acts have provisions under which they can ask the court to freeze the account of a person if a person’s capacity to earn is below the amount of money that the person appears to have.”

“If you are living a lavish lifestyle and it appears you don’t have the means to have acquired the property and the wealth you have, the EFCC is free to probe you.”
Mrs. Jonathan recently sued Skye Bank and the EFCC for freezing four company accounts which have a balance of $15m.

The former first lady also has another account with the title, ‘Patience Ibifaka Jonathan’ which has a balance of $5m. The account is, however, still active.

The EFCC froze the accounts of the four companies which were initially believed to be owned by Dudafa until Patience stated last week that the four accounts belonged to her.

The EFCC is set to arraign Dudafa and some bank officials for alleged fraud.

Mr. Joseph Okobieme, lawyer to Demola Bolodeoku, one of the bank officials, said his client did not take part in forging the signatures of the domestic servants/directors.

He said:

“I don’t know why he was included in the charge. He has no business in this transaction. He was merely doing his job as a banker. The allegation they levelled against him was not that he benefitted from the proceeds of the alleged transaction.”

“There is a mere allegation of forgery of certain documents which are not within his power to have forged because he is not a director of the company.”

“These four companies were duly registered by the CAC (Corporate Affairs Commission) with the names and the directors on record. So, if they say the names of these directors were forged, it is not possible for my client to have forged them. Clearly, he was not the author of the documents.”

He believed that the four domestic servants should be charged by the EFCC as well.

The  Aridolf Resort Wellness and Spa, Yenagoa, was inaugurated in April 2015,  a month before the end of former President Jonathan’s tenure.

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome is Right, God Created Women as an Afterthought!

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome is Right, God Created Women as an Afterthought!

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

Following the widely reported statement credited to Pastor Chris Oyakhilome in which he said husbands are masters in marriages, a Nigerian, Ijabla Raymond, has reacted.

Apparently, Nigerian Christian feminists are calling for Pastor Chris Oyakhilome's head because of the statement he made below which they claim misrepresents the Bible:

“Husband does not mean the male partner in a marriage, husband means master. The reason for most problems in Christian marriages is the fact that women . . . believe they are equal partners."

In marriage, you have the man who is the head of that union and because he’s the head of that union, it is important to understand him.

You think he’s the one that needs to understand his wife and that is where you are wrong. He will eventually but you have to know the type of man you are married to and his needs. When you say you are marrying a man, you are coming under his authority.

The Bible says, the man is the head of the woman, so when you marry him you come under his authority; you are not authority-sharers even though you are both heirs to the kingdom of God. When you decide not to subject yourself to that authority, you are a rebel and God is not going to accept what you are doing because you are not functioning correctly.

Making woman was not God’s original plan because after God created Adam and before He made Eve, He said in Genesis 1:31 “Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good.” God made woman because of man, so the woman was not His original idea. This is the reality.

Genesis 2:18a “And the Lord God said, “For it is not good for a man to be alone.” The Bible didn’t say “lonely” but “alone.” There is a big difference.

The man wasn’t lonely but alone. Genesis 2:18b “…I will make him an help meet”. He didn’t say a partner or a supervisor or a special advisor or someone to tell him what to do. I will make him someone to help him. God gave man a responsibility, so woman was made to help man achieve that responsibility. If this is understood in every home, then you won’t have problems.

Let me tell you; no husband wants another mother; he has had one all his life. He doesn’t want an older sister; he’s probably had one. Your secret is in obedience, your secret is in listening to your husband, and your secret is in doing the things that please him. When you don’t do the things that please him, you take the role of a mother or of an older sister.

A man loves the one he serves (God) and the one that serves him (a good wife). He fights the one that wants to be at the same level with him (a rebellious wife).

A wise woman will always be an influence on her husband; the foolish one will always annoy the husband, make him mad, make him angry and when you make him angry, you will be the victim.” ~ Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

In my view, his statement is wholly compatible with the biblical creation story. According to the story, an all-knowing God created all animals in both sexes, but when it came to humans, He only created the man. Only later did he realize it was not good for the man to be alone, an observation that calls into question the notion that He is omniscient. In any case, He put Adam to sleep and carved Eve out of Adam's rib.

This does not suggest the woman featured in God's original plan. Evidently, she was created as an afterthought to help the man.

Further down in Exodus 20:17, God issues the Ten Commandments and lists women as men’s properties along with oxen, donkeys, and servants: “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

Unfortunately, the New Testament does not say anything uplifting about the status of women.

In 1 Timothy 2:11-14, the Bible orders women to be silent in the church and lays the blame for the Fall on Eve: “A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived."

This is corroborated by 1 Corinthians 14:34-35: ". . . Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says, If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church."

The Bible states in no unmistakable term in 1 Corinthians 11:8-9 that women were created for men: "For a man is the image and glory of God, but a woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman but woman for man."

Despite coming 500 years after Christianity, Islam does not improve on the situation of women. In Koran 4:34, Allah admonishes Muslim men to beat their disobedient wives - a clear endorsement of domestic violence against women.

I am amused when apologists say the beating is not supposed to leave a mark on the woman’s body, and that it must not be enforced until an attempt to “convince them (wives), and forsake them in bed” has been unsuccessful.

Let us even grant that the Koran specifies the beating must be light and not leave a mark; these people ought to be told there is simply no justification for beating one’s spouse. One expects a perfect God to have known this!

From all indication, the only women in Allah's heaven are the virgins whose sole purpose is to satisfy the sexual lusts of the men there.

According to Sahih Bukhari 2:29, women make up the majority of the people in hell. A weak Hadith, Kanz al-`ummal, 22:10, even suggests that 99% of women go to Hell. According to one Hadith, women have a deficiency in intelligence, and a man's testimony is worth those of two women: "[Muhammad] said, 'Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?'

They replied in the affirmative. He said, 'This is the deficiency in her intelligence.' " Sahih Bukhari (6:301). The Hadith continues: "[Muhammad said] 'isn’t it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?' The women replied in the affirmative. He said, 'This is the deficiency in her religion.'"

And, here are the words of Muhammad's favorite wife regarding the role assigned to women in Islam: "A'isha said [to Muhammad]: ' You have made us equal to the dogs and the asses' " Sahih Muslim (4:1039).

The notion that an omnibenevolent God who cares about human welfare exists in the Bible or the Koran is a myth. Let us ask a simple question to test this: which of these is a problem to human society - eating pork, marrying children or slavery? Would it surprise the reader to know that the God(s) of the Bible and Koran scored zero in this test? Prophet Muhammad married a six-year-old girl when he was in his fifties, and according to some accounts, he consummated the marriage when she was nine!

This practice might have been commonplace at the time the prophet lived, but one would expect an all-knowing God (who supposedly spoke to Muhammad) to know that a child does not have the mental capacity to give consent for sex. He should have known that this practice would be frowned upon in the future (and rightly so) and would come to be known as pedophilia.

How then can a man that had the choice between outlawing the consumption of pork and marrying a child but who banned the eating of pork and took a child-bride for himself be considered an excellent example of conduct? We cannot end the marriage to children in many Islamic societies because Muslims want to follow his example.

Modern interpreters can try, but there is little doubt about the position of women in relation to men in the Abrahamic holy books.

Pastor Oyakhilome cannot be blamed for misrepresenting the Bible on this occasion. Whether he is in the best position to give another person a marriage tutorial is quite another matter. Every time believers try to dissociate themselves from the verses above or suggest that the Old Testament verses no longer apply (even though they quote from the same place to support tithing) they prove they have better morals than the God(s) who put those nasty verses in the scriptures.

Relying on the Bible and the Koran for moral guidance is like submitting your brain to be operated upon by a caveman rather than a modern neurosurgeon.

Without a doubt, that is a recipe for disaster. It cannot be right that one-half of the human population insists it is their God-given right to subjugate the other half of the human race. We saw a clear demonstration of this earlier in the year when zealous Christian and Muslim lawmakers in the National Assembly quoted passages from their holy scriptures to justify their opposition to a bill that would end discrimination against women in Nigerian society.

We live in the age of reason, science, and best evidence - these should guide our morality in the 21st century, not archaic texts were written by superstitious, desert goat-herders. Modern families see marriage as a partnership, and not a master-slave relationship. As a humanist and someone who puts human welfare and progress at the forefront of their consciousness, I am concerned about the retrogressive and harmful sermons preached by our religious leaders.

These people are influential and are accountable for the corruption in the way a generation of Nigerians thinks, and we can no longer afford to let what they preach go unchallenged. It is dangerous not to act because of our survival as a nation, but also as a negroid people, requires a radical change of mindset.

Asari Dokubo Exposes British Government, If You are Yoruba, Igbo, You Must Read This

Asari Dokubo Exposes British Government, If You are Yoruba, Igbo, You Must Read This

Below was what he shared on his Facebook page:

“Our agenda was to completely exploit Africa. Nigeria was my duty post.

When we assessed Nigeria, this was what we found in the southern region; strength, intelligence, determination to succeed, well established history, complex but focused life style, great hope and aspirations… the East is good in business and technology, the west is good in administration and commerce, law and medicine, but it was a pity we planned our agenda to give power “at all cost” to the northerner.

They seemed to be submissive and silly of a kind. Our mission was accomplished by destroying the opposition at all fronts.
The west led in the fight for the independence, and was punished for asking for freedom.

They will not rule Nigeria! Despite seeing vast land with no human but cattle in the north, we still gave the north 55 million instead of 32 Million.” ~

Harold SmithThis was to be used to maintain their majority votes and future power bid. He stated that the West without Lagos was the most populous in Nigeria at that time but they ignored that. The north was seriously encouraged to go into the military.

According to him, they believe that the south may attend western education, but future leaders will always come from military background. Their traditional rulers were to be made influential and super human.

The northerners were given accelerated promotions both in the military and civil service to justify their superiority over the south. Everything was to work against the south. We truncated their good plan for their future.

“I was very sorry for the A.G; it was a great party too much for African standard. We planned to destroy Awolowo and Azikwe well, the west and the east and sowed a seed of discord among them”.

We tricked Azikwe into accepting to be president having known that Balewa will be the main man with power. Awolowo has to go to jail to cripple his genius plans for a greater Nigeria.

‘’Looking at the northern leaders now, If they have any agenda in Nigeria at all, sadly it is only for the north, and nothing for Nigeria….’’ ~ Harold Smith  “Study the past if you would define the future.” ~ Confucius

Wife Catches Her Husband Sucking Housemaid's Breast...His Reason Will Shock You

File Photo

In a very comic drama, a woman barged into the house to find her husband assiduously sucking the breasts of the housemaid as she babysitted for the couple but his defence of the act will make you laugh and roll on the floor.

This is a trending joke on Instagram which is currently gaining the attention of women who are using it as a yardstick to measure the infidelity of men.

According to the short story, a man met his housemaid 'breastfeeding' their baby as a way of calming him down in the absence of the mother.

The man found the action poisonous and unhygienic so he decided to suck the boobs of the housemaid to confirm if any substance was being released from the nipple only for his wife to nab him in the act.

Sean Tizzle

During a brief chat at NetNg studios yesterday, Music Star, Sean Tizzle stormed out of the interview when he was questioned about his skin transformation.

When he was asked to explain to Nigerians if he truly bleached, 27-year-old Ondo singer stood up and walked out while giving the cameras his middle finger.

Sean Tizzle had previously blamed the Nigerian press for the bleaching accusations leveled against him in an old interview, he told HFTV;

‘ Right now you can see what I look like, I really don’t know about all that, because people go still talk. Guess we could just blame it on the filters and these days I’ve been advised not to use them anymore, I just post my pictures without them’ .

427 Babies & 149 Mothers Rescued From Boko Haram Camps In Borno State

427 Babies & 149 Mothers Rescued From Boko Haram Camps In Borno State

The ultimate goal of all Boko Haram terrorists is to bear more children and increase the membership of the terror sect and produce Boko Haram foot soldiers in the future, Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima, has revealed

Shettima who received 427 babies and children, and 149 mothers rescued from Boko Haram enclave and handed over to Borno State government by the military yesterday at a newly opened rehabilitation and reintegration centre in Maiduguri, said members of Boko Haram strive to bring up children to take up their weird belief and perpetrate terrorism.”

An average male member of the Boko Haram has one great wish and that wish is for his son or daughter to inherit his doctrine of violence. The insurgents seriously take to child-bearing as a strategy of not only multiplying their numbers, but also producing children they hope, will continue from where their fathers stop in violent killings, as their own form of worship.

General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brig Gen Victor Ezugwu, while handing over the freed children and their mothers said the military has screened the hostages after regaining freedom from Boko Haram through the clearance operations conducted by the Nigerian forces.

The handing over of freed persons from Boko Haram bondage by the military was the fourth exercise since insurgency heightened in the state.

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome gives reasons why Christians should not divorce (Watch)

Rev. Chris Oyakhilome

Making his statement in short video clip posted in 2014, General Overseer of Believers Love World, aka Christ Embassy, Rev. Chris Oyakhilome made a case against divorce.

He said “I understand that some media houses particularly in Nigeria, and may be in South Africa have been writing some real stupid things with frivolous charges. That’s crazy.

I wasn’t accused of those things you said, nor did I commit those stupid things that you said…” “…I’m not a preacher, I’m a man of God”. ” When it comes to Rev Anita, pray for her.

If you are married to a man of God, it doesn’t make you automatically mature, you can make mistakes..” “Christians should not have a divorce, it shouldn’t be.

But that doesn’t mean a Christian should not take this step, they may, but that doesn’t make it right, and we shouldn’t take one another to court. But when it happens, we are not the one going there, someone is taking us there.

That’s the problem…” Sadly, his divorce to Anita Ebodaghe, nee Oyakhilome was finalised this year.

Power Generation Improving, Hits 4,285 Megawatts

Power Generation Improving, Hits 4,285 Megawatts

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said that the country’s power generation has increased from 3,810 megawatts recorded on September 8, 2016 to 4,285.90 megawatts on Friday.

The power generation record was reported in the website of Nigerian Electricity System Operator on Friday.
TCN said that 4,285.90 megawatts was the total output by power generation companies, and had been transferred to the 11 distribution companies across the country.

Electricity generation in the country has been stable in the last two months, rising from about 2, 983 megawatts to over 4, 000 megawatts.

Although power has improved, many parts of the country have remained without power supply owing to problems with the distribution companies, including provision of pre-payment meters.

Acting Chairman of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr Anthony Akah, had recently disclosed that no fewer than four million electricity consumers in the country were awaiting supply of the meters.

Akah said that although the commission had improved on metering system, unavailability of meter manufacturing companies was hindering the maximum provision of the product to Nigerians.

He said that the commission would sanction any distribution company which failed to comply with directives relating to the distribution of meters.

Buhari, Obama to meet on Tuesday; economic, security issues top agenda

President Barack Obama and Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari will meet on Tuesday in New York, on the sidelines of the US leader’s final appearance at the UN General Assembly session.

The 71st UN General session opens on Monday.

It will be President Buhari’s second appearance since he came to power on 29 May last year.

The meeting confirmed by White House was not on the itinerary of the Nigerian leader released on Friday.

Obama is also scheduled to meet with presidents of Iraq and Colombia.

Obama will discuss with President Buhari about continued U.S. support for security and economic changes in the country, as well the government’s efforts to counter the terrorist group Boko Haram.

Nigeria and the US have pending agreement over the sale of US military equipment, especially attack helicopters to fight the insurgents.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, President Buhari would deliver Nigeria’s statement at the opening of the General Debate of the Assembly on “The Sustainable Development Goals: A Universal Push to Transform Our World.”

Adesina revealed that the president would also attend a high-level summit to be hosted by the UN, on “Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants’’.

“The summit, which is the first of its kind organised by the General Assembly at the Heads of State and Government level, is expected to come up with a blueprint for a better international response to enhance protection of migrants and refugees.’’

He also said that Buhari would deliver a keynote address on “Taking Climate Action toward Sustainable Development in Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin.”

The president’s aide disclosed that leaders of member-countries of Lake Chad Basin would attend the summit, organised by Nigerian government, to highlight the urgent need to mobilise international response to the situation in the Chad Basin.

“Over nine million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in the Lake Chad Basin.”

He said that while in New York for the annual gathering of world leaders, the president would attend series of meetings as well as side events, which were of significant interest to Nigeria.

Adesina said that the president would equally participate in an event hosted by the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, on “Ending Need in the Lake Chad.’’

“On the margins of the 71st UNGA, President Buhari will sign the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, and participate in activities commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Declaration of the Right to Development.’’

He said that the Nigerian leader would attend the Clinton Global Initiative as well as the United Nations Private Sector Forum on Business and Global Goals organised by the Secretary General.

According to Adesina, the president will lead discussions at the United States-Africa Business Forum devoted to investing in Nigeria.

He said that the president would hold bilateral meetings with some world leaders in furtherance of his administration’s commitment in ameliorating the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the country.

He said that the discussions would also focus on the president’s longstanding commitment to returning peace and security in the North-East of Nigeria.

Adesina stated that the discussions would also focus on restoring calm to the Niger Delta, and attracting more investments to develop critical infrastructure and revamp the Nigerian economy.

JAMB Lists Fresh 8 Conditions Universities Must Stick To In Admitting Students

JAMB Lists Fresh 8 Conditions Universities Must Stick To In Admitting Students

Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Ishaq Oloyede on Friday said the agency will ensure candidates are not mistreated by their preferred universities.

He also listed eight conditions that tertiary institutions must follow when admitting students.

Mr. Oloyede spoke at Baze University, Jabi, Abuja at the first Extraordinary Technical Committee meeting on 2016 Admissions to First Choice Institutions.

He said the only difference in this year’s admission process is the policy that there should be no written post-UTME test.

Mr. Oloyede insisted that as a referee, his agency would not allow arbitrariness by institutions in the admission process.

“JAMB will resist such arbitrariness and illegal introduction of extraneous factors which were not contained in the published advertisement made available to the candidates.

“We should be able to explain to every Nigerian child who had applied for admission, why s/he was not admitted into his/her institution of choice,” he said.

According to him, the right of Senate or Academic Board of each institution on admissions of candidates is subject to the following conditions:

a. Guidelines stipulated by proprietors of the institutions

b. 60:40 (Science/Art) ratio for conventional universities

c. 80:20 (Science/Art) ratio for non-conventional universities

d. 70:30 (Technology/Non-technology) ratio for National Diploma Awarding Institutions

e. Use of 2016 JAMB, UTME results’ print-out for all candidates

f. Adherence to published subject combinations of various courses as specified by the Senate/Academic Board and included in the 2016 JAMB brochure

g. Adherence to the 2016 Admissions quota as prescribed by the Regulatory Bodies (NUC, NBTE, NCCE)

h. (For Federal universities) The quota stipulated by the Federal Executive Council concerning Merit, Catchment and Educationally less developed states, should be complied with.

Mr. Oloyede stated that the deadline for approved institutions’ admission panels was still November 30, 2016.

He also said the second Technical Committee Meeting would take place at Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, Imo state on November 14, 2016.

Buhari government wants to use me to get Jonathan –Tompolo

Buhari government wants to use me to get Jonathan –Tompolo

Militant leader Mr Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo, has claimed that former president Goodluck Jonathan was the primary target of the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

Tompolo, who is a fugitive having so far declined to answer a summons by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, said the plan to arrest him was a smokescreen to get at Mr. Jonathan.

In a rare exclusive interview, Tompolo also alleged that his dad, who died last week, was physically assaulted by Nigeria’s security agents on May 26, 2016 when they invaded Kurutie town in the Gbaramatu area of Delta where his late father, Thomas Ekpemupolo, resided before his death.

The ex-militant said the soldiers who attacked his aged father also ransacked his and others’ homes in the community. According to him, his late father suffered serious bodily injuries which resulted in the
amputation of his lower limbs.

“I am just a victim of circumstances. I am just a perceived enemy of the government,” Tompolo said in the interview. He said: “The intention of the government was to arrest former President Jonathan. But they feel that arresting Jonathan without arresting me may be difficult, that was the reason why they are after me.”

According to SR, Tompolo offered more details on his father’s death, stating:

“It happened in the early hours of Saturday May 28, 2016 when the Nigerian Army, under the guise of looking for members of the Niger Delta Avengers and of course my humble self, who they have accused of being behind the activities of the group without any evidence, invaded Kurutie town, where my father, Chief Thomas Ekpemupolo, was staying. They ransacked the whole building and brutalized him.

“He sustained an injury in one of his legs. We took him to Warri for medical attention after one week of the incident, due to difficulty in movement from the village to Warri because of the activities of the Army. He was admitted at Lily Clinic, where thorough medical tests were conducted on him.

The doctors later advised that his lower limb should be amputated because complication had set in as a result of the injury. We agreed to this and that was done. However, he later died in the clinic after two months.”

Tompolo described claims by security forces that he has been sponsoring the dreaded militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers, as “baseless and a wicked allegation.” He said, “I have refuted the allegation. Even the government knows that I am not a sponsor of the Niger Delta Avengers. They are only looking for something to nail me.”

He took a swipe at Nigeria’s judicial system, which he said kow-tows to the government in purely legal matters. He advocated that the judiciary should be independent in order to be effective in serving the people, especially in matters involving “perceived enemies of the state.”

Tompolo added, “I was the first person to sue the government and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) because my company’s account was restricted unjustly, but till now, the court has been playing funny, as the court has refused to hear the matter.

Instead, it has been adjourning the case at every sitting. I pray that the Nigerian Judiciary should be independent, otherwise it is difficult for a perceived enemy of the government to get justice and judgement.”

Tompolo also criticized President Buhari, stating that the retired General does not have a clue about how to manage the economy of the country, as evidenced by Nigeria’s present economic situation.

“Now Nigerians have seen the way the government has run the economy aground because they are clueless, and only chasing shadows. It is difficult to give what you do not have,” Tompolo said.

He threatened to return to the creeks as a militant because the Federal Government has failed the people, adding that the only way he could help his people may be to go back to the creeks and lay among his people, as he had done in the past.

“That is where I come from, and the whole of my life I have stayed there. This is just a temporary setback as I prefer to stay in the creek than any other place,” said Tompolo.

“That was why I led the struggle for a better living condition for the people so that, in the shortest possible time, the creek is urbanized so that the people will live like their counterparts in the urban areas,” he added.

$15m scandal: EFCC summons Patience Jonathan’s security aides

$15m scandal: EFCC summons Patience Jonathan’s security aides

Dame Patience Jonathan

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has summoned some officials of the Department of State Services, DSS, who were attached to Dame Patience Jonathan, the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, for interrogation.

The invitation was part of investigations into the $15m frozen traced to four company accounts belong to Patience Jonathan.

Punch quoted sources as saying that the EFCC has written the DSS to allow the embattled officials to honour their invitation.

The commission claimed it had evidence that the DSS officials had, on several occasions, deposited money into some of the accounts in Skye Bank between 2013 and 2015.

The source said, “The $15m, which we have frozen in the four company accounts, was not paid into the accounts at once. The money was paid into the accounts over a two-year period.

“However, we have evidence that it was DSS officials attached to Jonathan’s wife that deposited the money. We have gathered bank documents and we have invited them for interrogation.”

On why Patience had not been invited by the EFCC, even after she had openly laid claim to the money and dared the anti-graft agency to invite her for questioning, another source was quoted as saying that the commission was trying to build a solid case.

The source said, “We will not like to exchange words with her on the pages of newspapers. She says the money belongs to her but she has no evidence to show that she owns the money except the fact that she was given platinum cards to use in withdrawing money.

“Possessing an ATM card of an account that does not bear your name, signature or credentials does not give you the legal right over that account. We froze the accounts as part of investigations into a money laundering case.

“We are still investigating and we may invite her based on the outcome of investigations. We are still trying to build a solid case.”

The EFCC had stumbled on four company bank accounts in Skye Bank while investigating a former Special Adviser to Jonathan on Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa.

The names of the four companies are: Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited; Seagate Property Development and Investment Company Limited; Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Limited; and Globus Integrated Service Limited. The joint balance of the accounts, as of the time it was frozen, was said to be $15, 591,700.

The four companies standing trial before a Federal High Court in Lagos have since pleaded guilty to money laundering.

Jonathan’s wife has, however, accused the EFCC of hiring mercenaries as directors of the company in an attempt to steal her hard-earned money.
