A man has narrowly escaped death after his house was set ablaze in a clear assassination attempt.

The man has been identified as Victor Moabelo and he is indeed is lucky to be alive.

The 33-year-old man, survived death even though his shack was burned down on Saturday morning while he was asleep.

According to Daily Sun SA, the man from extension 20 in Mamelodi East, Tshwane, South Africa, thanked his neighbours who shouted and woke him up.

He said the community helped to put out the fire.

Victor told Daily Sun: “I lost my ID and bank cards.”

He claimed his neighbours saw two men whom he has termed as "enemies" passing his house who allegedly threw a bottle filled with petrol in his shack.

The neighbours said they couldn’t identify the two because they ran away quickly.

“I’m lucky to be alive because I’ve heard of many people dying from fires,” said Victor. “The fire has really turned my life upside down and I will have to start all over again.”

Victor said police refused to open a case and told him to bring a suspect first before they would consider it.

Police spokesman Captain Kay Makhubele said Victor should ask to see the commander at his local police station and explain his problem so that a case could be opened.

Presidency denies poisonous rice importation

Presidency denies poisonous rice importation

The Federal Government on Wednesday described attempts by some individuals on social media to link the government and Dangote group with a plan to ‘flood’ the country with genetically modified rice (GMO) as extremely uncharitable.

A statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said that the Federal Government in 2014 signed a $1billion Memorandum of Understanding, (MoU) for investment in integrated rice project with Dangote Industries Ltd.

In line with the agreement, the statement said that Dangote Industries Limited this year cultivated over 8,000 hectares in Hadejia, Jigawa state, creating over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs for farmers who are the major beneficiaries of the scheme.

It reads: “In consolidation of the rice project of the Federal Government, President Muhammadu Buhari administration is also in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and other reputable companies to tap into the vast potentials in the private sector and broadening the economic base of the country.

“The gains of the diversification drive especially in the Agriculture sector are already yielding dividends as shown by the recent statistics in the sector as published by the National Bureau of Statistics.
These engagements will continue until the present administration has laid a solid foundation for the economic development of the nation.

“It is therefore ridiculous that a government that is wholly devoted to the generation of employment for Nigerians especially through Agriculture will turn around to get involved in an activity that will reverse the gains of the same partnership.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has said it repeatedly that, ‘we have the capacity to feed ourselves in Nigeria and even export from what we produce in the country.”

“He has also said that through the provision of N200 billion by the CBN for small holder farmers and processors involved in local production of rice and other grains, rice importation will hopefully stop in the next three years.” It added.

The statement said that it was unfortunate that a few self-serving individuals are bent on distracting the administration while the Buhari administration is working assiduously with well-meaning Nigerians to bring the country out of the current economic situation it has found itself.

The government, it said, is focused on reflating the fortunes of the country through the diversification of the economy which will very soon yield results.

“The Federal Government warns purveyors of such malicious information and those thinking of embarking on the same route to have a rethink and retrace their steps.” It stated

However, the state government said it was proactive about the case and the victim has been returned to Edo State where he came from.

When contacted, the Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, confirmed the incident and said there was no cause for alarm, as the government had already taken necessary steps to prevent the spread of the disease.

He said, “It is expected; we have already said it, and that is why we are proactive about it to ensure that if anybody has symptoms, they will be detected in good time, enabling us to quickly curtail it.

“Also, there would be active surveillance, where we look around to see if anybody has been infected. Already, contact tracing has begun on this one.”

He explained that the case was a suspected one at the FMC, Owo, saying the victim had fever and other symptoms that suggested that it was Lassa fever.

He said the doctor took the blood sample of the victim and referred it to Iruwa Specialist Hospital in Edo State where it was was diagnosed.

I won't accept divorce unless you return me back to the way you met me, wife tells husband in court

I won't accept divorce unless you return me back to the way you met me, wife tells husband in court

There was mild drama at the Agboyi/Ketu customary court when a 35- year old woman, Basirat Alatise blatantly refused that the court should dissolve their marriage, saying that the only condition for accepting divorce is if the husband could restore her to the state he met her so that she could be attractive to a man if she is willing to get married again.

Her 48-year-old husband, Morufu Alatise had earlier petitioned the court to dissolve the three-year-old marriage on the grounds that there is no more love as well as destruction of his property, constant embarrassment in public and show of wickedness.

Mr Morufu said that he met his wife, Basirat at a carnival and he liked her and decided to marry her; he met the mum who gave her approval and they got married. According to him, he told the wife that he has a woman who has given birth for him earlier and asked if she was okay with it and the wife accepted.

However, it happened that the lady who gave birth for him started coming to visit and whenever the wife sees the woman, she gets violent and embarrasses him in public to the point of arresting him and putting him in the cell.

He then urged the court to dissolve the marriage and ask the wife what he did that would warrant her arresting him all the time.

The court then asked the wife to explain why she kept arresting the husband, and she narrated that, “When I met my husband, he never told me he was married. My relatives though were asking me how a man in his forties would not be married; that it is better we investigate and know why he is not yet married all these years.

It was then that we discovered that he already has a wife and when I confronted him, he said that the wife he married died. After a while we discovered it was a lie, that the wife is alive and I became friends with her.

“After a while, we then discovered that he now has another girlfriend he was secretly seeing and the lady comes to his office which is in our house to come visit him. It was very embarrassing for me and I confronted him and he told the lady to beat me up.

We fought and the lady tore my clothes and I immediately went to report at the police station and he was arrested and put in cell because he refused to produce the lady who fought me but I eventually bailed him.

“When it was time for me to give birth, I went to the hospital and we did scan and found out that I will have twins and after he heard that, he disappeared. I called him, looked for him everywhere but couldn’t find him and my mother and my relatives decided to support me.

I gave birth to the twins; one of the babies was sickly and the baby died because we didn’t have money to buy the drugs as at the time the baby needed to take the drugs.

He still didn’t show up or show any remorse that we lost a child. On the day of the naming ceremony, he came and stood like a stranger. He didn’t pay the hospital bill; he didn’t give any money for the naming ceremony.

“I still forgave him but he still brings the new girlfriend to his office which my father gave him. I couldn’t take it anymore, so I usually harass him so that he would know that I am not happy with his attitude and he still continued and had the audacity to say he wants divorce.

I will never accept any divorce except he has the power to take me back to the position he met me before I got pregnant; return all the money I have spent, otherwise, this our marriage is until death do us part.”

In all the narration, the husband did not counter anything the wife said, but was quiet with his head bowed.

O. Adebiyi who stood in for the president of the court said that it was clear who is hurting and he called the parties to his chambers and adjourned the case to February 3, 2016 for continuation of hearing

The Authority Icon & Industrialist GILBERT OBIAJULU UZODIKE

The Authority Icon & Industrialist GILBERT OBIAJULU UZODIKE

Engr. Gilbert Obiajulu Uzodike

For pushing a vision that put Nigeria squarely at the heart of his sprawling and strategic business plan; for providing vast employment opportunities for thousands of Nigerians, a product of his huge entrepreneurial energy – thereby positively impacting his community state, region and country, Engr. Gilbert Obiajulu Uzodike is The AUTHORITY Icon.

A far sighted entrepreneur - he is the foremost indigenous player in the electrical/communication wires and cable sector in Nigeria. Meet Engr. Gilbert Obiajulu Uzodike, founding Chairman/CEO of Cutix Plc. He was born on March 25, 1949, in Nnewi, Anambra State.

Founded in 1982 by Gilbert Obiajulu Uzodike, after returning from a stint with Raychem Corporation in the United States, Cutix has today grown in leaps and bounds, becoming a multi-award winning manufacturer of electric and telecoms cables, making it one of the best-performing indigenous companies quoted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).

Uzodike, until recently, has been at the helm of affairs of the company as founder and chief executive officer. As the founder, he set his eyes on quality in the making of cables and wires of all sizes with a well-equipped quality control laboratory. Today, Uzodike has not regretted towing that line as Cutix cable is the cable of choice. Cutix power cable plant, in Otolo, Nnewi, Anambra State is home to Nigeria’s fastest expanding cable manufacturing company. He also was Chairman of Adswitch PLC between 1982 and 2004.

A lingering cause for concern to the company is the influx of substandard, cheaper cables into the Nigerian market. In his words: “Actually, some business men who want to cut corners would go to China and ask them to produce cables to specifications that are below international standards, with the hope of making more profit. When these goods get into the country through the ports, customs officials at the ports turn a blind-eye, and allow the goods entry.”

Tracking back, for the unique pioneering task ahead, he got himself pretty well prepared when in 1975 he enrolled in Harvard Business School, Boston, United States of America, graduating with an MBA degree in June 1977.

Before then, he had between 1970 and 1974 attended the University of Lagos and graduated with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering. Prior to his university education, he had attended the College of Immaculate Conception, CIC, Enugu, from1962 to1966, where he passed the WASC examination in Division One.

Uzodike successfully completed the one year mandatory National Youth Corps Service from 1974 to1975 at Calabar Polytechnic, Calabar as a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering before the journey to real manufacturing.

He is married, a union blessed with six children.

I died 3 times and each time God resurrected me – Gbazueagu former Enugu state governoship candidate

I died 3 times and each time God resurrected me – Gbazueagu former Enugu state governoship candidate

Gbazuagu Gbazuagu

On August 28, Chief Gbazueagu Nweke Gbazueagu (GNG), former national secretary of the defunct United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) and now one of the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, gathered all his well-wishers and friends to the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, Enugu, for a special thanksgiving and what he called his testimony of all testimonies.

According to the former governorship candidate in Enugu State, he had organised the ceremony to thank God for saving his life after he was struck down by a strange ailment from January to August 2015, which sickness defiled all known medical solutions.

“However, God Almighty in His infinite mercy gave me a second chance and miraculously healed me and granted me absolute recovery in all facets of my life,” he said at the occasion that attracted who is who in the nation’s political landscape, as well as the business world.

After the thanksgiving, the man who commands huge political weight in the South-East zone also told the story of his strange ailment to a select group of journalists in Enugu, saying that now he is well again he is fully back to active politics.

 Excerpts:

My encounter with Bishop Mmadu

Sometime in 2002, Oji River was made a diocese of the Anglican church and Bishop Amos Mmadu became the first bishop of that diocese and invited me for a normal service.

When it was my time to speak, as I was always led by the spirit, I told him that it was unusual for him to be made a bishop and posted to his own town because he is from Achi, Oji River. I said, to be made a bishop and the first place you are posted to is your own town,

I said you will suffer persecution because prophets are not appreciated in their own land. But I said do not be afraid, that before you will leave this diocese, you will have cause to glorify God. Those persecutions will be over; I gave half a million naira then and left, that was in 2002.

Years down the line when they wanted to consecrate an archbishop for the province, Archbishop Emmanuel Chukwuma was one of those who made him bishop, but instead of choosing Chukwuma, they, the then primate and house of bishops chose Archbishop Amos Mmadu to be the archbishop of that province.

My involvement in building a cathedral for God

Before then, I said, before you leave this diocese, you must build a cathedral for the Lord. So, when he was now made an archbishop, I went back to one of his services and I said sir, today you are glorifying God.

I said about eight years ago that you will glorify God. I did not put into consideration of your being made an archbishop. I said what he has to do was to increase the drawing plan for the cathedral, that what you are going to build today is provincial cathedral, no longer diocesan cathedral.

He took the challenge; and when he wanted to appoint committee members, he picked my name, and behold, he made me the chairman, he never consulted me. So, I thought about it, my diocese is not Oji River, my diocese is Aguata.

The first day he called for the meeting, they now said, what is our estimate for this cathedral? And because I have in mind the type of cathedral I will like us to build for the province, I said N1billion will be the money to be used.

In the next meeting, all the members disappeared because they heard N1billion, they were wondering where we will get that kind of money, that maybe we will tax them. It was only me, Archbishop Chukwuma and the clergy that remained.

He called me GNG, I said sir, he said, God does not work with number. I have never forgotten that message up till today, and that has led me through everything I do. On the day of the launching of that particular cathedral, I voted N100 million,

I didn’t tell my wife, I took her by storm. I said I will take 10 per cent of the total cost of the building, so I donated N100 million. Then we started, laid the foundation and I said this building must be completed in three years because the usual thing is that church of God is supposed to be built from generation to generation.

But I said three years, we will dedicate. When we finished, the final thing was to roof which will now commence the finishing.

Deviating to build my own house

That time, my children asked me to build them a house because they felt that where we were staying was not good enough for them. I said okay; I acquired a land just close to Toscana Hotel, I acquired that land, 8,500square meters and my wife was reluctant about using the whole land for such a property.

She said no, if we can divide the land and farm at the other side. I said no, I had this big idea, the house was eight bedroom with an in-built gym, five expansive sitting rooms, 100-seater chapel, nine rooms boys-quarters with two sitting rooms upstairs and a swimming pool and a guest house.

At that site, I wanted to build a-150-sitting hall for meeting and a little office upstairs. So, while I was doing that, I merged it with the work that will end in three years. I channeled resources to building a business house and left my commitment to God’s work. I wanted to hand over that building to my wife as a birthday present.

My sudden ailment

Suddenly, an attack came, I didn’t know what was happening, I became restless, I couldn’t sleep again, I couldn’t be in one place. I started applying tranquilizer which I was not using before.

That was about February 2014, the house has to stop abruptly because I have actually finished it, it remained only the painting. I was preparing to travel to Turkey to buy the furniture.

Eventually, the thing became worse, I was devastated physically; I lost weight from 96 to 72. I was like a skeleton, but nothing was found as wrong with me. In the US, UK, Israel, Germany, India, Nigeria, nothing was found, but I was dying.

At a point, I died three times and each time God resurrected me; for nine months, I did not sleep for more than two hours a day maximum, that is to say I can take tranquilizer and sleep for one hour between 11 and 12 and I will not sleep again, then I will take another tranquilizer to sleep again between five and six and I will not sleep again.

During the day, no sleep no matter what you give to me, I will not sleep. It continued, nine months my wife cried day and night and my first daughter who returned from London with masters in Human Resource Management was crying on her own, but she does not want to compound that of her mother, when she gets to her room, she will do all the crying, when she comes out, she will clean her eyes.

The thing continued, my business was left behind, the so-called building meant nothing to me, in fact, when I move along the road during that period, I see people in thatched houses. I said these are God’s people.

This is the way human beings are supposed to live. Nothing mattered to me again, I actually wore only two cloths because all my cloths became over-sized, two times what I was supposed to wear and I refused to make new ones.

The worst thing was that my mum, because I am the only child of my mum, was incapacitated for three years. In fact, I called my relations and told them what to do on the event I die. I said just do the basic things for the church.

Every day of my life in that critical time, I thought it was the end, I thought I will not see the next day. I just gave up because I have done all the struggles and realized that nothing was happening, I just gave up.

The sudden reprieve

Eventually, I didn’t know what happened, when my mother died, things began to change, and I was eating very well.

The mystery about the whole thing is that during that time, I never slept one day in the hospital, but I was visiting the hospital almost three times a day; by 12 O’clock, I will wake up my daughter because my driver knows I will like him to rest,

I will wake her up to take me to the hospital, while the doctor will do the normal check up and tell me nothing is wrong with you. In one of the occasions I asked my doctor, he said that there was an injection he was going to give me so that I could sleep for once at least that month.

That the injection is supposed to be 25mil, but the maximum is 50mil, he gave me 50mil, I didn’t sleep, instead the thing was chocking me, I started drinking water, he had left before I had the experience.

I was rushed back to the same clinic. Immediately the doctor said this is the strongest tranquilizer anybody can give to you. He said keep drinking water. So my brothers, you can imagine when you don’t sleep for one month, what your life will be. But as God will have it,

I began to gradually recover, to sleep; two hours was like heaven for me. First of all, it began to wind me out of the whole tranquilizers, if I touch something, my hand will be shaking because of the effects of the tranquilizer. If I touch paper, my hand will be shaking.

Doing away with the bogus property

On the height of that situation because I have a family of five; myself, my wife and my children, I asked myself, what will I be doing with that property if I eventually die?

I decided to put it on sale, but nobody could buy because the way the property was structured, you cannot convert it to a hotel unless you bring it down, and the people said, we are buying land but the issue of bringing it down was an additional cost because the commercial people nobody wanted a chapel.

The nine bedroom boys-quarters with two sitting rooms was not structured in a way you will begin to convert them into a hotel. So, I gave out that house as a peanut.

My complete recovery

As soon as I gave out that house was when I began to recover because the mystery was that God wanted to tell me that things are vanity. Like now, I’m not in that house, I did not finish the house of God.

As I gave the house away for whatsoever reason, because I was going to dash it out that was where my process of recovery started. When I got over it somehow, I went back to the archbishop.

As God will have it, that was why I said God does not work with numbers, that one year and 18 months I was down, people began to show interest in the structure.

When I came back, a couple of things have been done inside, most of the things have been done, I now told the archbishop, give me a date we are going to dedicate this church. We wanted to do it this November, but we decided to put it off till Easter.

After I have spoken with the bishop and took over that responsibility, my recovery became very rapid, no medicine, no doctor, nothing.

If I bring my international passport, I will show you my face then and you see who is sitting with you now; unusual transformation. God has to clean me inside-out. He prospered me; created opportunity for me; created new and great friends for me.

People are outpouring in their way to do me a favour because he gave me an abundance of grace.

I suffered more than what Job suffered, but the only thing is that he didn’t take my family.

God said I will meet your need from his riches in glory, God never said I will meet your luxury and your greed.

That action I took was based on greed and covetousness and in that church, I mentioned it severally.

What are you doing with 8,500square meters when a normal plot is 750square meters; and the next property next to me 7,200square meters, the man built 16 duplexes and sold them for N70million each and still provided one he is living in. People have packed in there joyously

Nigerians’ extravagant lifestyle responsible for recession – Minister

Nigerians’ extravagant lifestyle responsible for recession – Minister

Prof. Anthony Anwukah

The Minister of State for Education and erstwhile Vice-Chancellor of Imo State University Owerri, Prof. Anthony Anwukah, has blamed Nigerians for their “inability to swiftly adjust to the present economic recession” in the country due to their “over-bloated lifestyle.”

He expressed regrets that most of the products that are consumed in the country are imported.
Anwukah, who spoke during the Special Senate Session organised by IMSU in honour of four senators of the university was, however, optimistic that the nation would come out of the economic hardship stronger.

He noted that the lifestyle and inability of Nigerians to readjust to the present economic situation is responsible for why the recession is severely felt.

He said, “Though there is hunger, starvation, penury and pain in the land following the economic crash, I know that after this timeout, it will be better for all  Nigerians”.

Earlier in her remarks,  the IMSU Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adaobi Obasi, said the essence of the grand reception was to honour the alumni of the university who have been elevated and given higher and sensitive portfolios.

Obasi said, “We appreciate you to have come from IMSU. You are really good ambassadors of the university.

Honoured were: Anwukah, who was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as the Education Minister for State; Prof. Chinedu Nwajuba, the Vice Chancellor Federal University, Ebonyi State; Prof. Chima Iwuchukwu, the Vice Chancellor, Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State; and Prof. Charles Okoroafor, the Vice Chancellor, Gregory University Uturu, Abia State.

Interesting!!! Meet 7 African Billionaires Who Come From the Same Village (Photo)

Wow! Meet 7 African Billionaires Who Come From the Same Village (Photo)

Two Kenyan billionaires: Equity Bank chairman Peter Munga and CEO James Mwangi (right)

A little African village has made history by producing seven African billionaires who have helped in developing their community.

This might sound unbelievable, but it is so true! A report by The Kenyans has revealed that a village in Kangema, Murang'a County boasts of being the richest locality in the country considering that a good number of Kenyan billionaires hail from the area.

Here is the full report by The Kenyans on this stunning revelation.

**********

A village in Kangema, Murang'a County, could perhaps boast being the richest locality in the country considering that a good number of Kenyan billionaires hail from the area.

Rwathia Village is home to Equity Bank chairman Peter Munga, CEO James Mwangi, investment banker Jimnah Mbaru and Britam boss Benson Wairegi.

Prominent businessmen Gerald Gikonyo, Gerishon Kirima and industrialist Chris Kirubi are also natives of the Central Kenya village. Interestingly, Mr Munga, Mwangi and Britam boss Wairegi have worked together as village men to amass their wealth.

The trio shares board directorship in companies such as Equity, Britam and Housing Finance. They also own billions of shares at the Nairobi Stock Exchange in various companies across various sectors.

According to Mr Munga, the secret to a successful business is knowing what the business is and staying focussed, then eventually everything will neatly fall into place.

In an interview with a local daily,  Mr Munga divulged that among them, there were no brokers and they conduct their businesses as gentlemen.

“No brokers (among us). We don’t undercut each other. We don’t sabotage or willingly do something to hurt each other’s business or establishments. It is an unspoken rule that guides how we relate with each other in both business and personal life. That is why you never see us quarrelling in public,” the Equity Bank chairman expressed.

Peter Munga

He was born in 1943. Munga founded Equity Building Society (EBS) in his hometown of Kangema in 1984 before it became Equity Bank in August 2014.

The 73-year-old worked as an assistant secretary at the Ministry of Water before he resigned in 1993.

Munga who is currently Equity's chairman hired CEO Mwangi as the director of finance to bring changes to EBS that was losing Sh5 Million annually.

James Mwangi

He was born in 1962. He is a husband and a father to four children.

Mr Mwangi is the current Group Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of the Equity Group Holdings Limited.

At the age of 31, he was employed by the Chairman and the CEO of Equity Building Society (EBS), to wind up the insolvent organisation which was losing Sh5 Million yearly.

He went to the University of Nairobi and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree (BCom).

Benson Wairegi

He was born in 1953. Mr Wairegi is the current Group Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of British-American Investments Company (Britam).

When he was 24 years he joined British-American as the Chief Accountant.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree (BCom) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), specializing in Accounting and Finance from the University of Nairobi. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Jimnah Mbaru

Mr Mbaru is currently the chairman and chief executive at the Dyer and Blair investment bank, where he owns a majority stake.

The 69-year-old  holds a Bachelor's degree in Commerce (BCom) from the University of Nairobi.

Mbaru served as a civil servant in various capacities before leaving for the private sector in 1980.

After this, he set up several banks - Jimba Credit Corporation Limited, Union Bank Of Kenya Limited and the Kenya Savings & Mortgages Limited, all of which were taken over by former president Daniel arap Moi’s regime as a way to regulate the banking industry.

Gerald Gikonyo and Gerishon Kirima

The two co-founded Rwathia Distributors influencing Mr Munga, Mwangi and Wairegi to work together as men from the same village, Rwathia.

According to a 2014 article by Dr Bitange Ndemo titled: The Mystery of Success, he highlights that Rwathia controls almost 20% of GDP and nearly half of stock market in the country.

“This village arguably controls almost 20 per cent of Kenya’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and almost 40% of the stock market in Kenya.

“Their  forebearers like Gerishon Kirima and Gerald Gikonyo, one of the co-founders of Rwathia Distributors, were successful in spite of the fact that they had limited education. Rwathia’s third generation is succeeding, not just here in Kenya, but in far-flung areas like the United States, " Ndemo noted.

The two apparently control the Rwathia groups of businesses which include prime properties in Nairobi, especially within areas on the east side of lower Tom Mboya Street, Ronald Ngara Street, River Road, among others.

Chris Kirubi

He was born in 1941. Mr Kirubi is a businessman, entrepreneur, industrialist and philanthropist. He is a Director at Centum Investment Company Limited, a business conglomerate, in which he is the largest individual shareholder.

Nigerian youngster Kelechi Iheanacho will be hoping to become the first Nigerian player to score an English Premier League goal in the Manchester derby on Saturday when his Manchester City side line up against rivals Manchester United.

The 19-year-old has the chance to make history as no Nigerian international has ever featured in the Manchester derby.

He will also become the third African at Manchester City to have hit target in the Manchester derby after Ivory Coast’s Yaya Toure and Zimbabwe’s Benjani Mwaruwari and the fourth African to feature after the earlier pair and former Tunisian defender Hatem Trabelsi.

According to statistics, 21 different nationalities have scored in the Manchester derby and a goal from Iheanacho for City could swell the number to 22 while 38 goals have been netted by Englishmen during clashes.

Iheanacho has made two substitute appearances for City this season and he looks to play a part in Saturday’s game with Sergio Aguero suspended.

Tompolo's 84-year-old father dies months after soldiers invaded his house

The father of a former militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, is dead

The Gbaramatu Voice, a community newspaper in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State, is reporting.

Thomas Osen Ekpemupolo, aged 84, died in the early hours of Wednesday at Lily Clinic, Deco Road, Warri.

The Ekpemupolo family would issue a statement shortly over their patriarch’s demise, a source in the community said.

During a military siege to root out members of the Niger Delta Avengers in the community on May 28, the older Ekpemupolo was allegedly attacked by the army officers.

In an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari last month, the ex-militant leader said “the rough treatment” his father received in the hands of the soldiers led to the amputation of his lower limbs in July.

“From the doctor’s report, it will be a thing of miracle if he survives this incident,” said Tompolo, who had remained at large after he was declared wanted by the Nigerian government in February.

Gov Mimiko disburses N200million loan to small scale businesses

Gov Mimiko disburses N200million loan to small scale businesses

Ondo State Governor Dr Olusegun Mimiko, in efforts to put smiles on the faces of people in his state, has disbursed over N200 million to various groups under its micro credit scheme.

Governor Mimiko stated this on Tuesday while speaking at the 3rd batch of loan disbursement and presentation of cheques to beneficiaries under the CBN/Ondo state Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Fund (MSMEDF), at the International event centre – The Dome in Akure.

At the event where a sum of N219.5million was disbursed to about 500 beneficiaries, Governor Mimiko disclosed that a total of N622.2m has been disbursed under the MSMEDF apart from the ones disbursed through the Agbebiye initiative, STARS and loans to market men and women in the State.

He noted that the gesture was in line with his promise to banish poverty from the State and create wealth, assuring that the State government will continue to inject more fund into the scheme.

He said “We have deliberately put in place several micro credit schemes  that will reduce poverty and also targeted at the people who could not provide requisite collateral security to obtain loans from banks”.

While pointing out that close to Two Billion Naira had been given out as loans by his administration since coming on board in the state, Mimiko noted that over N45 million naira had been disbursed under the Agbebiye Repositioning Scheme to the various Traditional Birth Attendants and the Faith Home Birth Attendants who had accepted to key into the State Government’s Agbebiye programme meant at bringing maternal death to zero level in Ondo State.

The Governor, who said that his administration had superseded the successive administrations in the state in loans disbursement, also stressed the need for the people to re-orientate themselves, pointing out that there is no alternative to hard-working.

He assured that his administration will continue to place priority on the welfare of the people of Ondo State, urging the beneficiaries of the loan to ensure uninterrupted repayment to allow others to benefit.

Earlier in her address, the chairman of the State Micro-Credit Agency, Mrs Banke Sutton thanked the governor for his concern towards the plights of the people, noting that the loan will enable the beneficiaries to boost their businesses and contribute to the economic development of the State.

Sutton, who pleaded with the beneficiaries to justify the confidence reposed in them by paying back on time, said that more fund is still available for disbursement if the beneficiaries pay back promptly.

Pinnick's Nomination For Fifa Seat Rejected By CAF

Pinnick's Nomination For Fifa Seat Rejected By CAF

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick will not contest for a FIFA council seat later this month after CAF refused to endorse his nomination.

The elections into the FIFA Council are slated for on September 29 with seven possible candidates have already been announced by CAF - Almamy Kabele Camara (Guinea); Suketu Patel (Sychelles); Kwesi Nyantakyi (Ghana); Ahmad (Madagascar); Augustin Senghor (Senegal); Hamidou Djibrilla (Niger) and Chabur Goc Alei (South Sudan).

The seven shortlisted candidates will undergo the FIFA integrity test, before their names are finally ratified for the ballot.

According to reports, Pinnick’s invitation of Infantino and 17 other African football federation presidents in July was only a cover-up to seek for support for his bid to contest for one of the FIFA seats, and this much has been confirmed by the man himself.

“As big as Nigeria, we don’t have a representative in CAF or in FIFA, so if I am ambitious to go to CAF or FIFA, yes because I am the president of the NFF, not because I’m just a member,” Pinnick told Lagos-based radio station, Lagos Talks FM on Tuesday.

“I am praying about it and if God wills it, why not? But the truth is Nigeria needs a presence globally and this is exactly what we are doing.”

BREAKING: DSS, police advise INEC to postpone Edo election

BREAKING: DSS, police advise INEC to postpone Edo election

The Nigeria Police Force, NPF, and the Department of State Services, DSS, have advised the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to postpone the governorship election in Edo state already scheduled for this Saturday, September 10.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Don Awunah, and an agent of the DSS‎, Garba Abdullahi, stated this at a press conference on Wednesday, citing security concerns as the reason for the request.

Reading out a statement on behalf of both agencies, Awunah said, “The Nigeria police and the DSS wish to inform the general public that credible intelligence availed to the agencies indicate plans by insurgent/extremist elements to attack vulnerable communities and soft targets with high population during the forthcoming Sallah celebrations between 12 and 13 September, 2016. Edo state is among the states being earmarked for these planned attacks by the extremists elements.

“It is in regard of this that we are appealing to INEC, which has legal duty to regulate elections in the country, to consider the need for possible postponement of the date of the election in Edo state in order to enable security agencies deal decisively with the envisaged terrorists threats.

“While the police/DSS remain mindful of the inconveniences this request may cause the various political stakeholders, it is our strong resolve that security agencies need not be distracted from ensuring a peaceful and secure Nigeria now and always.”

I print fake currency to recoup money I lost to fraudster, train my kids – 68-year-old man

I print fake currency to recoup money I lost to fraudster, train my kids – 68-year-old man

A Sexagenarian, identified as Femi Faweya, was Tuesday paraded by the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly printing fake Nigerian currency.

The 68-year-old man alongside his 42-year-old accomplice, Segun Fayose, confessed to the crime, saying they obtained a currency printing machine with which they had duped many people.

Speaking before newsmen at the state Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, Faweya, who claimed to be a former Grade 2 teacher, said he ventured into printing fake currency because he lost N200, 000 to fraudsters.

“I also needed money to take care of my three children who are in the university.

“I have been printing N500 and N1, 000 notes with the machine in order to recoup the money I lost to fraudster.

“I live at Ijokodo in Ibadan here. I used to photocopy the materials with a photocopy machine.

“I was introduced into the business three years ago by Bayo but he is late now. He duped me of N200, 000 without doing anything for me.

“About two months ago, someone gave me a printer for the business,” Faweye added.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sam Adegbuyi, who paraded the suspects said there would be no resting place for criminals in the state.

Ex-Senate President condemns US Congressman’s letter on Buhari, asks FG to lodge formal complaint

Ex-Senate President condemns US Congressman’s letter on Buhari, asks FG to lodge formal complaint

One time Senate President, Ameh Ebute, has advised the federal government to explore ways of telling the United States, US, Congressman, Tom Marino, who recently accused President Muhammadu B‎uhari of “excesses,” to limit himself to what he is knowledgeable and not dabble into Nigerian politics.

Marino, had in a letter to the US secretary of state, John Kerry, accused Buhari of continually shunning inclusivity in favour of surrounding himself with advisors and ministers from the north. He added that the President is running an autocratic government, and asked his country to withhold its security assistance to Nigeria.

But in a letter to the minister of foreign affairs, Ebute urged the Nigerian government to lay a formal complaint against Marino, arguing that the assistance of the US in the fight against insurgency is not entirely for the benefit of Nigeria but for the American nation itself.

“A Nigeria free of terrorism will contribute to a more secured world and the Americans would actually be helping themselves by offering this assistance since that country is the one in the crosshair of terrorists,” he said in the letter, dated September 6.

Ebute continued that from all indications, Marino knows nothing about Nigeria, pointing out that the US congressman’s letter was driven by the belief that his country remains an imperial lord over Nigeria and other nations.

“I therefore crave your indulgence to use your office to send a strong message to Congressman Tom Marino, the US Congress and the United States government that the era of imperialism is over and discussions about mutual cooperation should not be exploited to pass ignorant judgment on Nigeria or any other nation for that matter.

“What is saddening is the realisation that within Nigeria there is a section of the population that erroneously thinks Marino has done them the favour of providing ammunition to continue their unyielding attacks on President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

“This however cannot be further from the truth as the letter is an attack on Nigeria as a country, which in Marino’s view is nothing but an outpost of the US,” the ex-Senate President wrote.

Sultan of Sokoto only announced Eld-el–Kabir, not public holiday – MURIC replies Christian Elders

Sultan of Sokoto only announced Eld-el–Kabir, not public holiday – MURIC replies Christian Elders

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), on Wednesday said that the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, only announced the day for this year’s Eid-el-Kabir and not public holiday as alleged by Nigeria Christian Elders Forum (NCEF).

The News Agency of Nigeria [NAN] recalls that the Sultan had on September 2, announced that Muslims will observe the Eid-el-Kabir on September 12.

However, a coalition of 22 Christian groups in Nigeria led by NCEF on Tuesday claimed that the Sultan had declared the day as public holiday.

MURIC’s Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, in a statement made available to NAN in Ibadan, advised the Christian group to help in promoting unity and religious tolerance in the country.

“For the avoidance of doubts, there is a difference between declaration of Sallah day and declaration of a public holiday.

“Only the Federal Government can declare a public holiday in the country while governors alone can declare it in their states.

“But the Sultan reserves the right to declare the day for a Muslim festival.

“The Sultan based the announcement on Saudi’s declaration of Sunday 11th September as Arafat Day. Normally, the following day should be Sallah day.

“So the Sultan was right, he was even being proactive,’’ MURIC said.

MURIC further explained that the announcement by the Sultan was to guide the government on which days to declare as public holiday for the Sallah, which is part of the national holiday, just like Christmas.

The group said all faith groups must strive to promote peace in the country based on mutual respect and tolerance.

“Let us join hands to rebuild our dear country. Let us come together to fight the ills of society.

“Our criticisms and commendations should be on the basis of an individual’s pedigree and not on his religious leaning.

“Let us celebrate our achievements together and seek corrections for our failings with one voice. (NAN)

Segun Abraham, Tinubu's candidate, makes u-turn, rejects APC primary result

Segun Abraham, Tinubu's candidate, makes u-turn, rejects APC primary result

Mr. Segun Abraham, who was touted as the favorite candidate of the APC leader Bola Tinubu, has taken a u-turn and rejected the outcome of the party's primary election.

The APC primary held last weekend to elect a gubernatorial candidate for the Ondo State polls, was won by Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN).

Abraham's rejection is coming barely two days after another aspirant, who came third in the contest, Chief Olusola Oke rejected the result.

Abraham, through the Director General of the O’Abraham Campaign Organisation, Prince Olu Adegboro, in a volte-face described the election as nothing but a fraud.

Abraham in his statement titled ‘That Our Democracy May Endure’, signed on his behalf by Adegboro, stated that the outcome of the election is “unacceptable”, considering the plethora of staggering facts of anomalies that had since emerged to the demerit of the exercise.

The reads in part: “It is no longer news that as a true democrat, imbued with the best spirit of sportmanship, I congratulated Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, who purportedly emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the September 3rd Gubernatorial Primary election in Ondo State in the face of palpable disbelief and surprise on the outcome of the primary election by my numerous supporters.

“It is now beyond doubt that the delegate list used on the day of the primary election was doctored and strangely injected with a mind blowing number of delegates who are neither executive members of our party nor statutory delegates.”

Abraham had on Sunday congratulated the winner and also commended the electoral committee headed by Jigawa state governor, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar for conducting a transparent primary.

Judge fixes June 5 for Bill Cosby sex assault trial

Judge fixes June 5 for Bill Cosby sex assault trial

Disgraced US megastar Bill Cosby is due to stand trial for sexual assault on June 5, 2017 in what could see up to 13 other alleged victims testify against the award-winning comedian turned pariah.

Judge Steven O’Neill set the date after the 79-year-old pioneering black comedian made multiple attempts to head off the possibility of a trial stemming from one alleged incident at his Philadelphia home in 2004.

But O’Neill advised lawyers that the trial could start even earlier if schedules permit. He also said that given the defence assertion that Cosby is blind, the defendant may require special assistance in court.

Andrea Constand, who worked for the Temple University basketball team at the time, alleges that Cosby plied her with pills and wine, then sat her down on a couch at his Philadelphia home where he assaulted her.

Cosby says he gave her a pill, but insists their relations with consensual. He faces up to 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine if convicted.

Dressed in a pinstripe jacket and gray pants, Cosby had appeared animated and engaged in conversation with his lawyers before Tuesday’s hearing at Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown, northwest of Philadelphia.

But the prospective trial cements a brutal fall from grace for the once treasured father figure and apparent model citizen who smashed through racial barriers and delighted audiences with his gentle, self-deprecating humor.

In recent years, more than 50 women have publicly accused him of being a sexual predator spanning four decades, making remarkably similar allegations that he fed them sedatives and alcohol that made them unable to resist his advances.

– $1 million bail –

The vast majority of the alleged abuses happened too long ago to prosecute, making the Constand case the only criminal charge brought against Cosby.

Montgomery County prosecutor Kevin Steele told the court that he wants up to 13 other alleged victims to testify at trial. The judge has yet to agree and Cosby‘s legal team will likely put up fierce resistance.

The defense vowed their client would continue “the fight for his rights” and accused a lawyer representing other alleged sexual assault victims of waging a campaign built “on racial bias and prejudice.”

“When the media repeats her accusations — with no evidence, no trial and no jury — we are moved backwards as a country and away from the America that our civil rights leaders sacrificed so much to create,” they said.

Those allegations have seen celebrity pals and millions more malign the legend who attained his greatest fame for his role as a lovable obstetrician and family man in the hit 1980s television sitcom “The Cosby Show.”

The Constand case was initially settled by a civil suit in 2006 but prosecutors reopened claiming that new evidence had come to light.

The former star posted bail at $1 million in the case last December, but has yet to enter a plea.

– ‘The Cosby Show’ –

If he pleads guilty, Cosby could avoid the enormous publicity that will come with one of America’s most famous entertainers going on trial.

In her original deposition in January 2005, Constand said Cosby plied her with pills and wine, then sat her down on a couch, where the actor allegedly fondled her breasts, put his fingers in her vagina and put her hand on his erect penis.

Cosby‘s legal team mock Constand’s credibility, saying she chopped and changed her evidence, and omitted from the final version lying down on a bed next to the actor and later visiting his home for dinner.

Constand, who now lives in Canada, has yet to appear at any public hearing.

Cosby‘s most famous role was as Cliff Huxtable, the affable father of an upper middle class black family in New York, in “The Cosby Show” from 1984 to 1992.

It was one of the most popular TV series of all time and jettisoned the actor into a life of fame and millions, following a humble childhood during which he was raised by a maid and a US Navy cook.

Cosby served in the Navy himself and won an athletic scholarship to Temple, before moving into comedy. In addition to television, he wrote books and appeared in movies.

His wife Camille has stood by his side. The couple have five children. Their son Ennis was shot dead in 1997 while changing a flat tire in California.
