Yakubu Gowon'Buhari needs a good plan, discipline to implement it' - Former Head of State

Yakubu Gowon'Buhari needs a good plan, discipline to implement it' - Former Head of State

Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) has said what Nigeria needs to develop industrially is a good plan, commitment to the plan, and the discipline to implement it.

He stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, April 15, in Abuja,

Recounting his days as the head of state, Gowon said "we had a development plan, which was agro-allied industry, with the hope that that will be a platform for the future Nigeria’s industrial development and industrial take off.

“And with that particular programme, although it was mainly agro-allied, we had iron and steel, we had petrochemical and we had NLNG in place, starting to develop them.

“And by the next plan, which we were planning to do, we had hoped we would have started launching Nigeria’s industrial take off.

“So really, all that is required is good plan, commitment to the plan and the discipline to carry it through.

“And even if you are not able to finish it yourself, my hope is that whichever government comes, should be able to build upon it and make it a success.’’

Gowon said the Third National Development Plan, which was developed between 1975 and 1980 remains the best strategy for Nigeria to succeed

According to NAN, Development Plan had a projected investment of N30 billion, which was later increased to N43.3 billion.

This represented 10 times that of the Second Plan and about 15 times that of the First Plan.

The objectives of the plan includes, increase in per capita income; more even distribution of income reduction in the level of unemployment; increase in the supply of higher level manpower and diversification of the economy.

The plan was premised on the need for the public sector to provide infrastructure for the poorer sections of the population including electricity, water, hospitals, housing, and schools.

Gowon said unless Nigeria develops its agro-industry, it would not become food sufficient and would continue to import food from other countries.

He said once that is achieved, other components that will alleviate poverty would fall into place.

The bride’s dress was designed by Anthony Montesano from Signor Mont Couture and featured a fishtail bottom, low neckline and intricate beading.

Cachia’s bridesmaids also wore black high necked dresses with long sleeves.  Instead of flowers, the ladies all carried green leaves while the bride’s bouquet was decorated with green leaves, pink and purple flowers.

The mother-of-one told Daily Mail Australia why she chose to wear black.
“I always wear black anyway, I think it suits me and it's such a bold and striking color,” she said.
Sophie’s husband, Jaryd Cachia, didn’t dress like a regular groom rather he opted for a maroon dinner jacket with a paisley shirt, black bow tie and leather pants.

“We didn't do it for anyone but us, we wanted to wear what we wanted to wear, simple as that,” the bride said.

The blogger said friends and family were not surprised she chose black, adding that she and her husband ‘simply wanted to wear something they wanted to wear on their wedding day’.

“I didn't want anything traditional ... everyone has a wedding, why does everyone have to do everything the same, there's no rule book,” she said.
“I didn't do it for attention, or to be known as the girl who wore a black dress on my wedding day.

“I just wanted to wear a dress I think is beautiful,” Mrs Cachia told Daily Mail Australia.

Senators Stage a Walkout in Protest Over Amendment of CCB Act to Protect Saraki as It Passes 2nd Reading

Senators Stage a Walkout in Protest Over Amendment of CCB Act to Protect Saraki as It Passes 2nd Reading

The senate during plenary session

Some Nigerian senators staged a walkout on Thursday to protest a bill seeking to amend the act establishing the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and its tribunal.

A bill for an amendment of Code of Conduct Tribunal and Bureau Act, has passed the second reading in the Senate house on Thursday, just 48 hours after it was first read, with some senators, led by Senator Solomon Olamileka Adeola (APC, Lagos West) staging a walkout in protest of the development.

Adeola shared the following message on his Facebook page:

"Good Afternoon Friends.

"I am sure many of you have read that the bill to amend the Code of Conduct Act passed second reading today on the floor of the Nigerian Senate, with deputy senate president Ike Ekweremadu presiding.

"Even though the majority in senate will always have its way, I and my constituents in Lagos West Senatorial District are not in support of the amendments to the Code of Conduct Act CAP C15 LFN 2004, which was sponsored by Senator Peter Nwaoboshi.

"I and some of my colleagues stepped out in opposition to the amendments. #Yayi #LagosWest #Senate #YayiAdeola"

We had earlier reported it here that the of Code of Conduct Tribunal and Bureau Act bill which was sponsored by Senator Peter Nwaoboshi (PDP, Delta North) which is alleged to be a plan to kill Saraki's CCT trial, passed second reading and subsequently referred to the committees on Judiciary and Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.

Nwaoboshi while defending the bill at Thursday’s session presided over by Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu said,

"It is clear that the act does not contemplate criminal trial so the usage of criminal procedure act and the criminal procedure code should not be used as a procedural template in the tribunal. In due course, I will present to this distinguished senate a comprehensive amendment of the third schedule to the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal rules of procedure which should be distinct rules for proceedings in the Code of Conduct Tribunal."

Senator Dino Melaye (APC, Kogi West) who also supported the bill said,

"The amendment was very apt as it had become clear that the CCT was delving into criminal trials. Section 3b stipulated that before a prosecution can start, the person in question would have to be communicated and he must respond to the bureau.

"After investigation by the bureau, they will transfer for prosecution. It is stipulated that you must have a minimum of three judges before they can sit, but as it is today, we have two judges yet trial is ongoing. When the two judges take different positions, what happens?"

Other Senators who supported the bill were Jubrin Barau (APC Kano North), Sam Anyanwu (PDP Imo East) and the minority whip, Biodun Olujimi (PDP, Ekiti South).

The bill was then referred to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public petitions and its Judiciary and Human Rights counterpart after the Senators voted for it’s passage for second reading.

The executive governor of Bayelsa state, Seriake Dickson, has officially appointed two members of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) into his cabinet.

According to a report on TheCable, the newly elected People's Democratic Party (PDP) governor of Bayelsa state, Seriake Dickson, has appointed two members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) into his cabinet.

The governor charged them to put in their best in helping him achieve his restoration mandate, adding that his decision to pick people from the opposition party was in fulfillment of his promise to run an all-inclusive government.

The governorship election was a fierce contest between him and former governor of the state, Timipre Sylva, who ran on the platform of the APC.

EXTRA: How snake killed the 9-month-old baby of a Boko Haram commander

EXTRA: How snake killed the 9-month-old baby of a Boko Haram commander

A nine-month child whom a Boko Haram commander had with one of his female captives has been killed by a snake.

The incident happened last weekend when the deceased child was sleeping beside his 17-year-old mother.

According to the BBC, the snake crept into their compound where they were relaxing as a result of the heat inside the house.

The mother identified as Zara was rescued during a military operation in Sambisa Forest, a stronghold of the sect in Borno.

In her first conversation with outsiders since her abduction over a year ago, she said she had not recovered from the pains.

Zara said life was tough and dangerous, as air force jets bombarded the vast Sambisa.

“They gave us a choice – to be married, or to be a slave. I decided to marry,” the BBC quoted her as saying.

She was eventually rescued and reunited with her relatives, but the stigma she faced made her yearn for a return to Sambisa.

“People call me a Boko Haram wife and called me a criminal. They didn’t want me near. They didn’t like me,” Zara said.

Commenting on Zara’s life after Sambisa, Mohamed Umaru, her uncle said: “The women in our family realised she was three months pregnant.

“In our family it happens that some of us are Christians and some are Muslims. She was a Christian before she was kidnapped but the Boko Haram who married her turned her into a Muslim.”

There was a split in the family over what to do and they took a vote as to whether she should abort or keep the child.

The majority prevailed and she gave birth to a boy.

“She said her husband’s father is called Usman, so that is how she named the child,” Mohamed said.

Zara said she had become an outcast in her community.

EXTRA: How snake killed the 9-month-old baby of a Boko Haram commander

Zara, the traumatised teenager

She now sits inside the small walled compound around her house, afraid to go outside because of the cruel insults of the neighbourhood children – messages of hate learned from their parents.

“They didn’t like my child. When he fell sick nobody would look after him,” she said.

“Some were happy that he died. They were happy the blood of Boko Haram had gone from the family.”

Zara’s uncle said the girl’s condition had become so bad that she sometimes contemplates suicide.

“They said thank God that the kid is dead, that God has answered their prayers,” Mohamed explained.

“Sometimes she says she wants to go to school and become a doctor and help society, but sometimes, when people insult her, she says she wants to go back to the Sambisa Forest.

“She always talks about her husband who happens to be a Boko Haram commander. She says the guy is nice to her and that he wants to start a new life with her.

“She will go and do a suicide mission if she gets the chance.

“People should understand that these children didn’t create this, but if we continue to stigmatise people with such trauma we might create something much, much bigger than Boko Haram in the future,” her uncle says.

“You are creating a more dangerous thing than Boko Haram if you grow up not welcomed by society and with nobody wanting to help you.

“My prayer is for the government to do something. They should come to their aid and reintegrate them and show them love.”

Zara says she is in love with her husband although she believes she has been brainwashed. She feels abandoned by her family.

“The feeling for the forest is strong now, but it will go away. I will forget the time with Boko Haram, but not yet,” she said.

Senator warns against playing politics with Lagos-Calabar rail project

Senator warns against playing politics with Lagos-Calabar rail project

Senator Hope Uzodinma

The lawmaker representing Imo West District in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, Senator Hope Uzodinma has warned his colleagues against “playing politics” with the Lagos-Calabar Rail project.
While commending the Federal Government on the project as appropriated in the 2016 budget, he stated that the project when executed would open up business activities within the Lagos/Calabar axis and improve the well-being of the people of the area.

This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by his aide; Mr. China Nwaneri, which also called for the timely completion of the ongoing Owerri-Ohaji -Elele dual carriage way to ameliorate the present hardship faced by commuters using the road.

The senator appealed to the Ministry of Niger Delta and the contractor handling the project-Arab Contractors to do everything possible to resolve the issues hampering the early completion of the road for the benefit of commuters who are largely members of his constituency.

While regretting the delay in the completion of the project which he attributed to funding, he said: “This is one of the major projects that will link Imo State with other coastal states of the Niger Delta and trigger economic development. Therefore, the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta and the contractor-Arab Contractors must do everything possible to ensure timely completion.”

Uzodinma, who is the Chairman Senate Committee on Aviation urged the Ministry and the contractor to resolve all issues and accelerate work on the project before the rainy season sets in.

“Commuters using the road waste man hours on the road because of its deplorable state and this is not good for their economic well-being and that of Imo and the neighboring states. The Federal Ministry of Niger Delta and the contractor must therefore ensure that it is completed timely to save the people from the night mare they pass through daily on the road,” he said.

Jonathan's Fallout with Obasanjo Led to His Downfall - Reuben Abati Admits in New Article

Jonathan's Fallout with Obasanjo Led to His Downfall - Reuben Abati Admits in New Article

Reuben Abati

Reuben Abati has insinuated that with the benefit of hindsight, Goodluck Jonathan miscalculated by having a row with Olusegun Obasanjo, upholding that it was what led to Jonathan's defeat in the last presidential election.

In an opinion entitled: 'Who governs Nigeria?' which was published on Friday, Reuben Abati, the erstwhile Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to then President, Goodluck Jonathan, has insinuated that with the benefit of hindsight, his principal miscalculated by having a row with former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, upholding that 'miscalculation' was what led to Jonathan’s defeat in the last presidential election.

In trying to buttress his position that the military is still governing Nigeria even after handing over to civilians, he argued that with the death of former President, Umaru Yar’Adua, the ascension into the presidency by his then deputy, Jonathan, was 'helped a lot' by him being the 'favourite' of Obasanjo.

The article reads in part: "The military are still governing Nigeria too. They may be in the background, but their exit 16 years ago, has not quite translated into a loss of influence or presence. In the early years of their de-centering, many of them chose to join politics and replace their uniforms with traditional attires

"Their original argument is that if other professionals can join politics, then a soldier should not be excluded. They failed to add that the military class in politics in Africa has shown a tendency to exercise proprietorial rights and powers, which delimit the democratic project.

"In Nigeria such powers and rights have been exercised consistently and mostly by, happily for us, a gerontocratic class, whose impact, I believe, will be determined by the effluxion of time.

"And it is like this: the President that emerged in 1999 was a soldier: the received opinion was that only such a strong man could stabilise the country. His successor was the brother of another old soldier; he and his Deputy were personally chosen by the departing President. He died in office, but for his Deputy to succeed him, it helped a lot that he was also a favorite of the General who chose his own successors.

"When this protégé fell out with the General, in retrospect now, a miscalculation, the General turned Godfather swore to remove him from office. And it happened. In 2015, another former soldier and strong man had to be brought back to office and power. When anything goes wrong, a class of old Generals is the one who steps forward to protect and guide the country.

"The only saving grace is that they do not yet have a successor–class of similarly influential men with military pedigree. But when their time passes, would there be equally strong civilians who can act as protectors of the nation?."

IMF Seeks End to Presidency, National Assembly Budget Impasse

Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun (right) and the President of the World Bank, Dr. Jim Yong Kim, during the G24 Ministers meeting at the 2016 Spring Meetings of the World Bank and IMF in Washington DC

•Senate bills whittle down CCB powers, bars CCT from criminal proceedings

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Thursday waded into the impasse between the executive arm of government and the National Assembly over the 2016 budget, advising the Nigerian government to resolve the issues surrounding the budget and have it assented to, just as it renewed the call for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to implement a flexible foreign exchange regime.

IMF Managing Director, Christine Lagarde, who spoke at the opening press briefing of the fund at the 2016 Spring Meetings of the IMF-World Bank in Washington D.C., also told the federal government to seek assistance from international institutions capable of helping the Nigerian economy overcome its current economic challenges.

“Our recommendation is that, first, Nigeria seek help from the international institutions that can best help. Second is that Nigeria is open-minded about using flexibility of the exchange rate in order to absorb some of the shocks; we believe that it’s more efficient than using a list of forex items that are barred from being imported into the country.
“And third, we believe that it’s really important that budget be completely decided and approved,” Lagarde said.

Lagarde noted that the IMF was ready to come to the aid of Nigeria to resolve its economic issues provided the federal government approaches it for such assistance, recalling that during her visit to the country in January this year, she pointedly told the government to de-emphasise reliance on oil revenue and to diversify the economy, especially with the lingering volatility of oil prices.

According to her, “The low price of oil is general but low price of oil as far as Nigeria is concerned is a critical issue. Sixty per cent of your exports and 80 per cent of your revenue or the other way round is actually oil dependent.
“So when there is a massive decline in the price of oil, those two also take a similar beating; it has a major impact on the country.”

She believed Nigeria was “full of energy, full of smart people” and could really transform some of its activities in other sectors of the economy including the agriculture sector.
In her opening remarks, she noted that “we expect global growth this year to be at 3.2 per cent and 3.5 per cent next year. This makes it harder to spread economic warmth to the citizens of the globe”.
“It is not enough to lift living standards, reduce debt and create sufficient opportunities for the nearly 200 million people around the world who are officially unemployed and looking for jobs.

“There is a risk that middle class families and the poor actually remain behind, which would embolden the voices of protectionism and fragmentation,” she said.
Earlier, Word Bank President, Mr. Jim Yong Kim, pointed out: “In the global economy, there are not many bright spots around the world. The United States is one among the developed countries and India is another among the middle-income countries.

“Growth remains weak in Europe and Japan and among emerging economies. Russia and Brazil are projected to post, again, negative growth.
“We just downgraded our global growth forecast this year from 2.9 per cent to 2.5 per cent. In this period of global economic slowdown, we’re also facing major global challenges: forced displacement, climate change, and pandemics.

“I want to stress that each of these three represent very clear downside risks to the global economy. We’re not working urgently and in new ways with partners to find solutions to these issues that affect all of us.”
Meanwhile, a bill seeking to whittle down the powers of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) scaled its second reading on the floor of the Senate yesterday.

In the same vein, another bill seeking to delete CCT from the list of judicial institutions with the jurisdiction to adjudicate on criminal matters has been initiated in the Senate.
The first bill tagged, “Code of Conduct Act Cap C15 LFN 2004 (Amendment) Bill 2016”, was sponsored by Senator Peter Nwaboshi (Delta North).

Yesterday’s plenary was presided over by Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, as the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, stayed away.
In his lead debate, Nwaboshi said the bill was conceived to ensure that anyone who appeared before CCT is given a fair hearing.

“The amendment of Section 3 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act is to give every public officer appearing before the bureau fair hearing as provided for under Section 36(2)(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999,” he said.

The amendments proposed in the bill are as follows: “The functions of the Bureau shall be to: (a) receive assets declarations by officers in accordance with the provisions of this Act; (b) take and retain custody of such assets declarations; (c) examine the asset declarations and ensure that they comply with the requirements of this Act and of any law for the time being in force if otherwise the bureau shall invite the public officer concerned and take down his statement in writing; (d) receive complaints about non-compliance with or breach of this Act and where the Bureau having regard to any statement taken or to be taken after such subsequent complaint is made considers it necessary to do so, investigate the complaint and where appropriate refer such complaints to the Code of Conduct Tribunal established by Section 20 of this Act and the constitution in accordance with the provisions of Sections 20 to 25 of this Act.”

While all senators, who contributed to the debate hailed the amendment bill, describing it as timely, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North) cautioned his colleagues against the amendment, describing the bill as ill-timed.

He said even though the amendment might be good, coming at the time Saraki is standing trial before CCT could generate a negative public backlash.
Specifically, he said the public could interpret the amendment as a desperate move to frustrate the ongoing trial of Saraki.

“I rise to raise a point of caution. I am against the timing of the amendment. We must look at the perception of the people. Nigerian people can interpret it to mean that we have something to hide.
“Nigerians will question why we are doing this now if not that our president is facing trial. That is what Nigerians will think. We need to be careful,” he warned.
But Ekweremadu quickly addressed Abdullahi’s concern, insisting that the bill had nothing to do with Saraki’s trial.

According to him, the bill was not proposed to be retroactive, noting that Saraki’s trial had already begun and hence, its passage could no longer influence the ongoing trial.
Ekweremadu further claimed that the move only showed that the Senate was not afraid to carry out its legislative functions.

When the bill was put to a voice vote, senators unanimously voted in favour of its passage and was subsequently referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics and Judiciary.

Also yesterday, Senator Isah Misau (Bauchi Central) sponsored another bill tagged, “”A Bill for an Act to Amend the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015 and for Other Related Matters”.
The bill seeks to remove CCT from the list of courts saddled with powers to initiate criminal proceedings against accused persons.

Highlighting include: “The provisions of this Act shall not apply to a court martial and such other courts or tribunals not being courts created and listed under Section 6(5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended.”

Attorney-General reveals why FG is negotiating with MTN over N1.04trn fine

Attorney-General reveals why FG is negotiating with MTN over N1.04trn fine

Abubakar Malami

The Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, has explained that the Federal Government is negotiating with MTN Nigeria over the N1.04trn fine to show that it has no intention of penalizing the telecom company out of business.

The fine was slammed on MTN Nigeria by the Nigeria Communications Commission, NCC, towards the end of last year for failing to deactivate unregistered SIM cards. There have been talks between the Nigerian authorities and the company ever since.

Speaking when he appeared before the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Telecommunications chaired by Hon. Saheed Fijabi in Abuja yesterday, Malami pointed out that the offences committed by the MTN did not border on criminality but were mere infractions against industry rules.

Members of the Committee had expressed reservations over his decision to unilaterally enter into such settlement deal with MTN contrary to laid down rules and to the exclusion of the relevant government regulatory agency like NCC.

But Malami responded by saying: “Penalties are meant naturally to be negotiated. It is not intention of Nigeria to kill MTN at all. I am not here to defend MTN but my responsibility must be in public interest and I am not unmindful of the fact that Nigeria is looking for foreign investors but my responsibility must be factored into public interest.”

Chibok girls: Until they are set free, there will be no peace -Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton

A former first lady of the United States of America, USA and presidential aspirant of the Democrats, Hillary Clinton, has expressed her concern over the abducted Chibok girls, saying the victims and their family members will remain unsettled until the girls are returned.
Mrs Clinton expressed support for Nigerians and all those who have been working diligently to secure the safe return of the Chibok girls.

In a letter written to the BringBackOurGirls, BBOG, Clinton thanked Nigerians and all those who have been doing everything possible to rescue the missing girls alive.

The letter came on the occasion of the second anniversary of the kidnap of 219 Chibok school girls, on Thursday.

According to her, the 2nd Chiboks’ anniversary is “a stark reminder of the work we must do to advance equality for women and girls around the world.

“It’s two years since hundreds of schoolgirls were kidnapped in Chibok, Nigeria. They were taken from their dormitory in the dead of night by the terrorist group Boko Haram.

“Until they’re freed, they and their families won’t know peace.

“I stand with the people of Nigeria and all those who have been working diligently to secure the safe return of the Chibok girls and bring an end to Boko Haram’s brutal acts of terror.

“UNICEF report that one in five suicide bombings by Boko Haram has been carried out by a child – mostly girls, some as young as 8. No child should have to endure these atrocities.

“It’s the right thing to do, and it improves security and prosperity for everyone. That starts with freeing the Chibok girls, and stopping the terror of Boko Haram.

“My heart aches for the hundreds of boys and girls who have been kidnapped by Boko Haram over the years. They have suffered sexual violence and forced marriage,” Ms Clinton noted.

Apparently, the 62-year-old wrestler missed getting fired from the WWE in July 2015 because all the transcript from the tape could not be gotten after he was accused of being racist. But now the actual audio is out there for everyone to hear, and it’s so disturbing to see how casually he fires off the word "n***

The audio came from the 2011 sex tape that Hulk didn’t know he was participating in with Heather Clem, the now ex-wife of his friend and radio personality Bubba the Love Sponge, 49. While the sex tape and audio transcripts were already made public, the actual tape of Hulk saying the horrible racist words was finally released on April 14 via the soundcloud site Death And Taxes and be warned, it’s graphic!

"So it gets to the point where…I dunno if [daughter] Brooke was f***ing the black guy’s son, or they’ve been hanging out,” Hulk is heard telling Heather on the tape. "I caught them holding hands together on the tour,” he adds in a completely calm voice.

"They were getting close to kind of [INAUDIBLE] the f*****g [INAUDIBLE]. I’m not a double-standard type of guy, I’m a racist to a point, y’know, f***ing n*****s, but then, when it comes to nice people…” Hulk continues before Heather jumps in to say "We all are [racist] that way.”
Hogan is yet to comment. We'll keep you all posted on this story. Please stay with us.

BREAKING News: Court Dismisses Saraki's Application as the Senate President is Set to Face Corruption Trial

BREAKING News: Court Dismisses Saraki's Application as the Senate President is Set to Face Corruption Trial

A Federal High Court in Abuja has again dismissed the application by Senate President Bukola Saraki seeking nullification of his ongoing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT.

The application by the embattled Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki seeking nullification of his ongoing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), has again been dismissed.

The Senate President who is standing trial for alleged false asset declaration and fraud at the CCT since September last year, had approached the court, asking it to put an end to his trial at the Tribunal, describing the trial as a breach of his fundamental human rights enshrined in Section Four of the 1999 constitution and an obstruction to his duties at the National Assembly.

The trial Judge, Abdul Kafarati, in his ruling, held that the CCT is a constitutional body, in the discharge of its legal obligation which should not be interfered with by a court of law.

"I find that none of the claims fall within chapter four of the constitution. This court cannot interfere with the proceedings before the tribunal; it cannot also interfere with the duties of the respondents which have been imposed on them by law," said Kafarati

Kafarati also held that the applicant’s claims that the CCT’s trial falls short of the constitutional requirements is 'a sentimental claim that has no basis in law.'

"There are Criminal procedure laws that put in place the method of protecting the accused," the judge added noting that the trial cannot be regarded as an infringement of Saraki’s right.

Since the same appeal by the applicant was dismissed by the Court of Appeal, Kafarati stated, it is inappropriate for the applicant to approach the Federal High Court seeking similar redress.

"If the court grants the application, there will be conflict with the ruling of the appellate Court. I do not see the need to go to the merit of the case," the judge ruled.

Beware Of Notorious Armed Robbery Gang Kidnapping Victims, Collecting ATM Cards & PIN Numbers At Gunpoint In Lagos

A new robbery gang specialising in kidnapping victims while snatching their ATM cards and PIN at gunpoint is now working 247 in Lagos State.

A victim simply identified as Iyke, said he was abducted at the bus stop while waiting for a commercial bus. He was bundled into a commercial bus by four men.

They made a beeline for Alpha Beach. At Alpha Beach, the four men dragged him into a building, where he met another group of men.

They searched Iyke and found N10,000 on him, which they took. They also took his ATM card. They forced him to disclose his Personal Identity Number (PIN). Two men left on a motorbike to the nearest ATM gallery to withdraw money from Iyke’s account, others stayed with him.

The suspect arrested however denied being a member of the notorious robbery gang.

Borokini Bolaji said he knows the gang using his master’s building to carry out their nefarious activities.

In his words;

“I’m just a caretaker of the building. I know the men behind this crime. I can take police to them. These men are indigenes of the Alpha Beach.

They are into 419(fraud). I have warned them to stop using the building for crime. The main leaders are Eba, Eku and Eja. They are always at Alpha Beach.”

“I fear them! They are cultists. They can kill and are always involved in land wars. They used to invite other gang members from Ikorodu.

I have complained to the owner of the building. He complained to the Baale, but nothing was done. Many of these men are relatives of the Baale. I’ll take police to them. I can’t vomit what I didn’t eat.”

2019: PDP Zones Presidency to the North, See Where the Vice-President is Coming From

2019: PDP Zones Presidency to the North, See Where the Vice-President is Coming From

The opposition party in Nigeria seems to be making full preparations against the 2019 general elections to unseat the ruling party, All Progressives Congress.

Ahead of the May 21 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, indications have emerged that the party has zoned the positions of president and vice president to the North and South East, respectively.

By the zoning arrangement, while the North will retain the seat of the Senate President, the South South will produce the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the national chairman of the party.

Daily Sun gathered that in the proposal, the party has zoned the position of deputy Senate President, deputy National Secretary and National Organising Secretary to the South West.

In the document obtained by a correspondent on Thursday, the South East, apart from producing the vice president, will also have the positions of national legal adviser, national treasurer and national youth Leader.

And, apart from the North producing the President and Senate President, the region will also produce the deputy Speaker, deputy National Chairman and the party’s national secretary.

Other offices zoned to the region include the national financial secretary, national publicity secretary, national auditor and national women leader. The document proposed that further zoning to the South for the May 21 PDP convention be guided by so many factors.

One is that South West and South South had produced the country’s presidents and that the South East has not and should be given the opportunity for the highest office in the new dispensation.

Another factor is that the South West and South East had produced Speaker and President of the Senate, respectively, while the South South has not produced any of those.

The South West had also produced the national treasurer, national youth leader, national financial secretary as well as the national legal adviser, while the South East has produced national women leader.

Records also show that the South South has also produced national secretary and national organising secretary while the South South and North Central traditionally swap positions in the party’s zoning arrangement.

In the proposed 2016 zoning arrangement, the party stated that in order to give PDP a new lease of life, it was imperative that a clause in the guidelines for the 2016 National Convention be included, barring all those who had served the party, especially during the immediate past tenure of the outgoing National Working Committee (NWC) from contesting for any office in the incoming dispensation.

The zoning arrangement:

1. President - North

2. Vice President - South East

3. Senate President - North

4. Speaker - South South

5. Deputy Senate President - South West

6. Deputy Speaker - North

7. Chairman of PDP - South South

8. Dept National Chair of PDP - North

Total War in Enugu Community as Residents Go at Each Other Over 'Slavery' Claims

File phoot used only for illutrative purpose

Residents of an Enugu community have turned the area into a war zone following altercations over the ownership of the land.

Many people were left injured and brutally battered while houses were burnt at Alor Uno in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State following crises between the Ejuona people and their Ugbene neighbours over which of them were the aborigines or slaves.

Vanguard reports that although the crises started several years ago, the latest trouble began when the Ugbene people discovered that their Ejuona neighbours allegedly wrote a constitution secretly and deposited same with the state government without their knowledge.

Under the secret constitution, the people of Ugbene were barred from taking any title including the traditional ruler ship of the area as they were considered as sub-humans who should not associate with real human beings.

According to Vanguard, Investigations showed that the Ugbene people were also barred from passing through some track roads in the community as such places were reserved for the true sons and daughters of the land.

A young Ugbene man who passed through the road on Monday was reportedly chased by youths from Ejuona who inflicted serious machete injuries on him.

The man who was simply identified as Sunday was said to be still lying critically ill in hospital due to machete cuts on his head.

Some of those who spoke on condition of anonymity told Vanguard that the Ugbene people decided to challenge the obnoxious practice as their youths also carried out reprisal attacks on the Ejuona people following the attack on Sunday, leading to destruction of houses and vehicles on both sides.

The traditional ruler of Alor Uno, Igwe Ngwu Nweze and other leaders of Ejuona, including Mr. Gilbert Omeje and their counterparts in Ugbene were said to be holding a meeting with the Area Commander, Nsukka Police Command, ACP Sunday Kuryasi, even as policemen had already been deployed to Alor Uno to maintain peace.

Unbelievable! Nanny Stabs Two Young Kids to Death Before Slitting Her Own Throat (Photos)

Yoselyn Ortega

A woman has completely shocked people with her dastardly act after she charged at innocent children, leaving them dead.

Yoselyn Ortega, a nanny allegedly stabbed two young children to death before slitting her own throat.

Mirror Online reports that Ortega has appeared in court after she was accused of murdering the siblings Lucia and Leo Krim.

Six-year-old Lucia, known as Lulu, and two-year-old Leo died of multiple stab wounds at the family’s New York apartment in October 2012.

Mother Marina Krim returned home with younger daughter Nessie, then three, to find the youngsters' bodies in the bath tub .

Ortega, 53, was found critically injured on the bathroom floor with a self-inflicted stab wound to her neck.

Yesterday, Ortega looked frail and gaunt as she appeared before New York Supreme Court.

Judge Gregory Carro offered the defendant 30 years to life imprisonment in exchange for her guilty plea.

Through her lawyer, Ortega, rejected the deal, which would have made her eligible for parole by age 80, the New York Post reported.

Attorney Valerie Van Leer-Greenberg told the court: "The defendant does not wish to accept that at this time."

The prosecution also offered objections to the plea bargain, the newspaper reported.

Lawyer Stuart Silberg said: "The People believe the only appropriate sentence is life without parole.

"The family is behind that, the family will testify, the family does not want that to be the disposition in this case and in their words they want her never to be out."

Ortega, who had only worked for the family for a short time, is believed to have told authorities that she hurt the children because of money problems.

She was also allegedly angry at the youngsters' parents for asking her to clean the family's home, in New York's Upper West Side.

It has been suggested that Ortega's legal team are preparing to file a psychiatric defence.
