Plot to assassinate me is real – Gov

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, yesterday lamented the withdrawal of his Chief Security Officer (CSO) by the police high command, saying that it was part of the plot to assassinate him.

The governor said his CSO was withdrawn yesterday alongside several other policemen from the Government House, Port Harcourt, adding that the police also effected the transfer of 500 senior and junior police officers from the state to be replaced by policemen with ulterior agenda.

Speaking in Khana Local Government Area of the state when he led candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to campaign at Babbe, Ken Khana and Nyor Khana districts, Wike said he was looking up to God and the youths to protect him because of what he described as the alleged partisanship of the police and its plot to compromise his security.

He said the police high command withdrew his CSO after the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Steven Hasso, attempted to invade Government House without success, stressing that the Inspector-General of Police has no vote in Rivers State.

He said: “Does the Inspector- General of Police (IGP) vote in Rivers State? The APC can take the IGP. For me, I will remain with the people.” He urged Rivers youths to monitor the results of the rerun polls from polling units to the collation centres and resist anyone trying to smuggle in cooked results.

While declaring Wednesday to Friday as fasting days for the December 10 rerun elections, he urged the people of the state to use the three days to pray for a peaceful and credible election.

The governor called on Ogoni people to vote for all PDP candidates during the rescheduled re-run elections.

Meanwhile, Governor Wike yesterday said that the alleged plot by some people to assassinate him was real and that it should not be something to be swept under the carpet. Wike said those behind the plot have boasted that he would be ‘the first serving governor to be assassinated and that nothing would happen.’

He alleged that the officer in charge of operations in the police, Steven Hasso and the Commander of SARS, Akin Fakorede, have threatened to kill him.

He said the plot was driven by desperation on the part of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders, who he noted, fully appreciated the fact that the party was unpopular, but want to win elections at all cost.

The governor, who reiterated his earlier statement of being in possession of a video footage detailing how the Rivers State Police Commissioner and others plotted to rig the rerun elections, threatened to release the video at the appropriate time.
